Do your kids play with play dough?

I got a set of 10 mini play doughs for T's Christmas stocking, even though the age on it says 3+.  As long as I'm playing with her and can make sure she's not devouring it, it's fine, right?  Is that why the age guide says 3+?

She hasn't yet, but if you are there making sure it doesn't get eaten, I would say it's no problem.

I agree but i know it would never work in out house.  Not yet.  I'm there but D is quick and loves to put stuff in her mouth.  Playdoh is non toxic though, right?

  • Nope, I think it'll be a while.

  • I wouldn't have an issue with it, but i would only let him play with it with me. Q might taste it but probably wouldn't shove a whole wad in his mouth if i was there to discourage it. And if it doesn't work out at first, you will still have it around to try again in a few months.

    I heart playdough

  • Yes. In her high hair so it doesn't get stuck in the carpet. She eventually put it in her mouth, so we were done. But she liked squishing it. Playdoh is nontoxic, as far as I know. We made ours at home, so it for sure was.

  • I'm pretty sure DD will just try to eat it, so I think we will wait for a while.

Confession - I remember eating play doh as a kid. Not sure how old I was, but old enought that I remember doing it and to know that I wasn't supposed to. It is salty and I don't have any lasting side effects.

  • Thanks guys!  I think it's definitely going to be a controlled environment kind of thing, both to make sure T doesn't eat it, and to make sure she doesn't feed it to the dog.

I made her a pom-pom container (sour cream container with holes in the top), and she completely loves it, but it's also a controlled environment toy because the dog will devour all the pom-poms if given half a chance.

  • DS and I made playdoh a few weeks ago but he wasn't too interested in it. I kept it to try again later.
