Update to Goodbye Swaddle

Well Ben's first night not swaddled went terribly. I tried one arm out, both arms out, and no swaddle at all and nothing worked. He was up every 1-2 hours last night from midnight on. Everything else about his routine was exactly the same but he still slept terribly. Please tell me he will eventually get used to not having his arms swaddled? I'm completely exhausted today.

We did it cold turkey.. just stopped.. but, that was because DS was breaking the swaddle in the middle of the night anyway, so he was partially used to be unswaddled half the night..

I'm sorry you're having such a tough time.. I've been told they adjust to patterns in 3s.. maybe keep with it for 3 days and see if he's gotten adjusted?

Is there a reason your ditching it all together? Is he in the crib? Emma kind of ditched it on her own. She slept in the RnP though so I did a make-shift swaddle when she outgrew the SwaddleMe's. I would lay her on top of the blanket (from the neck down) and then kind of swaddle by wrapping around and under one arm/leg and then the other. Within an hour she would break out of it but she was fine.

The other night he started rolling from back to belly so now we have to stop swaddling him. The problem is he is all over the crib at night and is constantly swinging his arms so he wakes himself up.

DS does this still, too. The ped originally said that "reflex" stops at 4m.. nope, DS still does it, but now it doesn't wake him. I'll watch him on the monitor, and he's flailing around half smacking himself in the head, but he sleeps right through it!! He also moves a TON in the crib.. I'll put him horizontally laying down at the top of the crib, in the morning he's vertical somewhere in the middle! Do you swaddle him for naps? Perhaps if he naps in the swing or something, don't swaddle him there.. because the swings are kinda cozy to begin with, it'll hold his arms a little, without fully restraining them.. maybe that will help him get used to the reflex jerks that he's experiencing?
