felt christmas tree fail... help!!

I made a felt christmas tree for ds and little felt lights for him to stick on it.  They aren't sticking!  I can get them to stick if I press hard on them but ds can't do the same.  What have i done wrong?  It is as if the felt isnt grippy enough.

  • I don't have an answer...I just think it's a great idea! I may have to steal it. :)

  • I am having the same problem. DH keeps telling me I am crazy for thinking that it will stick without velcro. I will try "roughing" it up a bit.

Also, for me, I haven't figured out a great way to hang the tree either, so the tree is moving around alot, which I am sure isn't helping either.

Compromise and Balance are key. JH.

  • I used the Command picture hanging strips to attach the tree to the wall, it seems to be holding pretty well!

LO likes to clump the ornaments up, so they don't really stick when he puts them on, but he has a blast handing them to me to put on one by one, and then pulling them all off. I figure next year he will be able to do it.

  • We also used mounting tape which is working well.  I was hoping this would be more of an indepent play thing, but i guess maybe he is still to young for it.

  • You could always add Velcro pieces to the lights but I just showed DD to rub the whole thing and the ornaments stick. She caught on pretty quick. I used the Velcro command strips to hang it too. I put 3 pieces all I had a few more might be better with just the sticky part in the wall and then the tree is stuck on the Velcro part. Haven't had any problems with it falling and it's been up since Thanksgiving

  • Did you make your tree out of flannel by any chance? Felt sticks to flannel better than itself.
  • I don't know what kind of felt we used, but DD has the opposite problem...if she pushes really hard, all the ornaments fall off! But if she just lightly "hangs" the ornament, it stays.

We mounted our tree to a thick piece of poster board (with hot glue), so it just leans against the wall.

  • I put magnets on the back and hung it on the front door (on the inside of course).  Roughing the ornaments helped mine stick better. Thanks for the suggestion!
