Babies: 9 - 12 Months

bed time problems...

I have twin 11 month olds and my one daughter for weeks now will not go to bed at her normal bed time (6pm). I know she's tired but she will cry the second she sees her crib. If I leave her in there she gets all sweaty and screams to the point her sister wakes up. Sometimes she'll fall asleep but then wake w/in 45 minutes SCREAMING and takes awhile to snap out of it where nothing calms her. Usually i'll let her hangout w/ me for a little and then put her down when she shows she's really tired but she even then fights it. The whole process has been taking until almost 9pm every night to finally get her to bed.  I don't know what to do. ANyone else going through this? Any tips?

On a side note i've taken her to the doctor she's not sick or anything but I know she's teething badly..could this be related to that ?

Re: bed time problems...

  • I just wanted to say HOLY cow 6 pm is a really early bedtime.  I suppose this is an obvious question but why are you putting them down so early? My 10 month old goes to bed at like 8:30.  Are they still napping during the day? Maybe more naps during the day, and push bedtime to a time she's actually more tired?

  • I don't have any tips, just know you are not alone. DS used to go to bed anytime around 6 or 6:30 but now he fights sleep even though he is tired at bedtime. Lately he's been going down anytime around 7 or 7:30 (closer to 7:30) but there were a few nights where it was anywhere between 8:30 and 9:30. I have had to resort to CIO, which I hate but I only let him cry for 5 minutes before I go in. Sometimes he goes to sleep before the 5 minutes is up, other times I have to go in there after 5 minutes, lay him back down (because he stands up and screams/cries) and then rub his back or belly until he settles down. I think they are honestly just at an age where they are learning so much that even though they are tired they don't want to miss anything by going to sleep. Smile

They used to have later bed times but would be crabby so I pushed it up and naps up and thats what seemed to work until lately.  They still sleep 6pm-6am..and the times I push bedtime back they still wake at 6am..so I haven't seen the point in pushing it back if the wake up stays the same.  I am going to try to start atleast doing a half hour later though to see if they are ready now for a later bed time though.  Oh and They still take 2 naps a day.

Thank you, I think this may be it...I've heard they can sleep regress around 10 months or so so maybe that's the case. I'm hoping it's just a faze.
