i need advice!! my daughter went to her 12 month well check up today. Her doctor suggested getting her off bottles now. and just do it cold turkey. Anyone ever cut them cold turkey? she wakes up first thing in the morning and is use to getting a bottle. as well as after bath and before bed i give her one last bottle to go to sleep!! Do i let her cry it out? Also we have introduced sippy cups..she only takes the straw kind the best. and will only use it during meal times. other than that she has no interest. HELP!!!!!!-

Re: getting 12month old off bottles?
i don't know what the rush is ... my older son had a bottle until he was 19 months old, and by then he was ready to give them up, and it wasn't a big deal, but it might have been a bit jarring if we did cold turkey at 12 months.
just my 2 cents, but they really are babies for such a short period of time ... why rush ???
This. We did the same type of cups because of DC not giving bottles at the toddler room and she liked it, so we just ditched the bottles...She didn't even complain. She has been drinking water in a straw cup since 6 months old. but I felt bad to give her milk in a straw cup, with the soft spout cup she can drink like a bottle.
I agree. Our son in 15 months and gets a bottle in the morning, sippys with milk and water during the day, and then a bottle after his bath, then we hold him a bit and lay him down. He doesn't use the bottle to fall asleep so I'm in no rush to get rid of it despite what seems to be the norm. He'll let me know when he doesn't want it anymore, and it's not harming him in anyway, only giving him some comfort.
I'd wean if your LO needs it to fall asleep, and also practice with a sippy cup during the day. But don't stress about it. I was so scared thinking I needed to give it up at 12 mos and then I really pondered it and decided to keep giving it.
