They are equally safe.The Advocate has the side cushions, but there isn't an data showing that it is worth the extra money, or that it is actually a "safety" feature per se.
I own several Britax seats, and while I love them, I would not recommend them if you have a tall child. There are other seats with taller shells/limits.
I have the advocate and Britax as a whole rates up top in terms of safety. My daughter is comfy in the seat however, I find it a pain in the butt to get her into and out of. Granted I have used no other convertible car seat to compare to to know if this is just a matter of straps etc.

They are super easy to use and install though.
