On the regular couch, she has a hard time but can make it up on to it. We have a love seat that is a bit lower that she gets on all the time. She's tall for her age though.
Nope. ?But DS did not start walking on his own until 20 months. ?Even now he is too small to climb up on the couch on his own. ?He is only 29 in tall so he can not get his leg up there yet! ?lol ?He can climb up and down the stairs on his own though. ?I think it is like many other things that every kid does it at their own rate and at their own time whenever they are ready.

Kate is only 19 months, but she just learned to crawl up a full flight of stairs (so no walking up or down stairs yet) and only started walking a month ago at 18 months. I am sure she'll be nowhere close to getting on the couch on her own at 20 months. I agree with tanzer--they all do it when they are ready, just like everything else. Kate has always been "slow" with gross motor stuff.
DS is a major climber, and 35.5 inches tall, so he does fine getting on the couch, among other things. I still hold his hand on stairs outside of the house. He still crawls up our stairs, but will walk down them holding on to the banister. Scares the sh!t out of me, I wish he still crawled down them.
He'll figure it out, then you'll be plucking him off of things you don't want him climbing. Loads of fun, lol.

DD was climbing on the couches around 18 months I think. I'm working on my yearly photobook now, and I have pictures of her playing on the couches then. She was also 35" at 18 months, so she had some help there.

Yes, but DS is a major climber. I wouldn't worry about it. Who knows, maybe he can do it, but just doesn't want to!
I still help the boys on the stairs. They "can" do it on their own, but it makes me nervous. I for sure helped them at 20 months.
I am pretty sure they could get up on the couches at 20 months though.
