We've recently stopped swaddling our almost 6 month old because she can roll over. Now her STTN is pretty much gone. Any ideas on how to help our little one? She will sleep through the night if she is laying on top of me with my arms around her or for VERY short periods of time in her bassinet. We've tried the sleep sack. Any other ideas? Anyone else going through this?
Re: No swaddling=No sleep
We stopped swaddling (cold turkey) when our baby was about 2 1/2 months old, because my husband discovered he had moved in his crib one night, and figured it wasn't safe anymore. At that point, he was sleeping a continuous 6-8 hour stretch at night, which was wonderful - but he was never the same after that. Over the last month or two, he developed a bad night waking habit (waking up crying 4-5 times a night), so a week ago we got a child sleep book and decided to start sleep training him, which is working. We're now back to waking/feeding just once a night, which is manageable.
Good luck - hoping your baby will have a better time being weaned from the swaddle than mine did, but you're not alone in noticing a sleep regression when discontinuing the swaddle.
The only thing we found worked was to put him down on his side instead of his back. We tried weaning, we tried cold turkey, it was miserable.
We switched him to a sleep sack (so he's still somewhat confined, but his arms are free and he can move around fairly easily), and after a week or so of being put down on his side, we started putting him back down on his back and we're back up to our swaddled sleeping hours, so huzzah.
