2nd Trimester

Placenta Previa anyone?

I just looked up what my doctor was telling me that he has a possible concern about. But doesn't want to call it until he gets another look at my 20 week appt. My Placenta right now at 16 weeks is low and it could possibly mean I will have Placenta Previa. My daughter who is almost 8 was a perfect pregnancy. This pregnacy even though baby has been perfect the whole time seems to be a lot harder on me.

So I am NOT goign to freak myself out because I still have time for my Placenta to move into the right place. But I was wondering if any ladies out there are dealing with Placenta Previa and what exactly it means. I'm researching it now.

Re: Placenta Previa anyone?

  • Yes.

I have marginal placenta previa, which means the placenta is too close to the cervix. I go back at 30 weeks for an u/s to see if it has moved. 99% of the time, it usually does move. Did your dr tell you what kind of previa you have?

do yourself a favor and don't freak out because a lot of women have it early on and it DOES end up moving out of the way.

On the off chance that it doesn't you will need to have a c-section.  Neither my midwife  nor the u/s tech was concerned because they see it all the time and it usually ends up working out just fine :)

  • I have a complete placenta previa which I was diagnosed with at 15 weeks.  I had an ultrasound at 23 weeks and it was still complete.  I go in for another at 29 weeks.  If it is still complete, I will have to plan for a c-section.  Because I had 2 bleeding episodes, I've been told to take it easy, not lift anything over 5 lbs, and pelvic rest.

Most previas do move before delivery.  If it doesn't they plan a c-section.  Some people have bleeding episodes, and some people can go through their entire pregnancy without one.

Good luck!  fx that it moves for you!

  • I was told I had it at 12 weeks and told not to have sex because I could bleed quite badly.  My at my last appointment I asked about it again because I was kind of freaking out about it, but they said not to worry that most of the time as the uterus stretches it will move up.  I'll find out in 2.5 weeks if there has been any progress.  *fingers crossed for everyone*

  • I have a full previa that was found at my 20w US. I got back next Tuesday to see if it has moved. If not then I'll be dismissed from my birth center and transfered to an OB who will do the c-section if continues to cover my cervix.

  • I have a similar condition- the distance between my cervix and my placenta is >2cm, which is ideal, so I have to go back for another ultra sound in 10 weeks and I need to be very careful with heavy lifting and no strenuous activity at all until I'm in the clear. They say it likely will correct itself, so hopefully it does!
  • I have partial right now. They said 90% of the time it moves as the uterus grows. If not it will mean a c-section and no sex. Right now I am not restricted but have a follow up at MFM on the 28th. I am still being really careful with what I do because I am so paranoid :/  Hope you have a smooth pregnancy!
