Dh and I went in to buy buy baby to research convertible car seats for dd. I mentioned that she was tall...not that the sales associate could have missed my 5 10 or dh's 6 ft height... But I digress. He said they all have the same height limits so it isn't an issue.
So we bought a britax pavilion and a Ricardo proride. One for each car. Not cheap. Now I'm wondering if we shouldn't have gotten the britax since dd is tall.
Not that it matters. Too late as I bought them off amazon and we tossed the box.
Are we SOL?
Re: did BBB steer us wrong?
The person at BBB was wrong, as all seats have height restrictions. It really depends on your child's torso length. Ex: My daughter is almost 5. She has a super short torso. She can still fit rear-facing in all of Britax seats, she is however nearing the weight limit on the Classic seats. If a child has a longer torso, then they could outgrow the seat very early on. The Britax seats should fit an average child rear-facing til at least 2. It isn't highly recommended by techs, because a lot of techs plan to rear-face past 2, so they are looking for a higher limit seat.
This fb group is really helpful (if you have fb). There are several techs on the page, including myself.

While it cost you some money, I think those are both reputable and safe seats and a popular choice with many parents. Ultimately the fit in your cars and ease of use will dictate if these are the best seats for you. The big caveat I read about the Recaro is that the Proride is really cramped for RF toddlers. Overall, these seats have average life span for a convertible carseat (especially if extended RF past 2 yr is not a necessity for you) and added features and better fabrics give it the premium price. While the harness height and height restrictions do vary between the different models, the weight limits tend to be very similar across the brands, so perhaps the BBB employee was confused when he told you they would all accommodate similarly.
If you wanted the most longevity out of a seat, you would have to consider something like the Radian XLT, which is a tricky monster of a seat to deal with RF unless you have ample space in your vehicle.
