Toddlers: 24 Months+

thinking of doing Disney

I've decided I'd really like to take DD to Disney soon to see the princesses and characters while she'll still find it so magical.  I'd like it to be very low key and simple, maybe 3 days at a park and a princess dinner.  I'm a teacher so it would have to be the week after Easter, which I think is the week before DD's birthday, or the summer.  DS will be 1 in May, so it's very possible he won't be running around if we go around Easter, which may make things easier.   I'm also not sure if I'd have to pay for alot more things for him once he's 1, are there many things that are free for under 1 only?  When do you think would be the better time to go?

I'm also trying to do this as cheaply as possible.  Does a 3 year old need their own seat on a plan or if you can keep them still can they still sit on your lap?  It would be about a 2 hour flight.

Re: thinking of doing Disney

  • Ages 2 and under are free at Disney. Once they hit 3 they have to have a ticket to the park and will need their own meal plan if you elect to go that route. We took my DD and my sister's boys last year. They were 3 ,2 and 1. DD at 2 1/2 had a blast and still talks about the trip. I doubt seriously the 1 year old remembers anything, but he went with the flow and as long as we had  snacks and he napped in the stroller, life was good.

  • Oh, and I would opt for the week after Easter if you can. The weather should be really nice and crowds will be small. The closer you get to summer in FL, the hotter it will be and you will be more likely to have afternoon thunderstorms/rainstorms pop up on you.

  • We took the boys when DS1 was just 4 and DS2 was just shy of 2.  2 year old was free for everything including flight (we flew home the day before his birthday).  We stayed off site and it worked well for us.  We rented a car for $100 for the week.  We did 2 days at disney (1 at Magic kingdom and 1 at animal kingdom).  That was enough for DS1.  We went to our resorts pool, and the beach a few days. Cocoa beach is only about 1 hour away and not crowded.  The kids had the most fun there.  We also visited family.  We were on a major budget.  It was nice to have a place with washer/dryer on suite, full kitchen and 2 bedrooms.  It was only 10 min from the park and we saved a lot going that route.

  • We are taking DD next month.  I wanted to take her before she turned 3 (in February) so that she would be free.  She is an extremely picky eater so knowing that her meals will be free is huge for us!  haha     We are staying for a week, but won't do a park every day.  I've scheduled a few character meals, but again, not sure how she will react.  I've showed her some youtube videos of the restaurants we are going to and she seems excited.  As for the airfare, we did have to pay full amount for her seat.  I know that this year Easter is the end of March so if you are looking for the week after that, the crowds might be heavier due to the holiday or spring breaks, but nothing that isn't manageable.  Plus the weather will be really nice!   Have fun planning!
