NT SCAN

So a nurse just called me with the overall results of my NT scan from the hospital because she needed to book a separate appointment for me. She said the results were 1:2214 mostly because of my age. I was not thinking straight and didn't get the measurements of the neck etc. She will be sending this all to my doctor sometime this week. I think these are decent numbers but she said about 5 times "because of your age." I am 38 so this is a concern for me. Any advice?  The age thing is really starting to bother me :(

    1:2214 for Down's? That is a FABULOUS number!! That is the risk of someone in their early twenties, so you are very well-preserved on the inside. Big Smile Just to give you something to compare with, my odds came out at 1:474 for Down's and I was VERY happy with that--felt like I'd won the lottery.

    Thanks for your message!!!! The nurse was hard to understand and didn't say too much, other than "because of yiur age".   Congrats on your good numbers too! I was trying to find a good chart to read to compare age and numbers. . Most of what I am finding is message boards not stats on-line.

    1 in 2214 is GREAT!  I was 36 when I had DD and I got a 1 in 325 or something for her (and she definitely doesn't have Down's).  I remember being really worried about it though.  This time I just went for the MaterniT21 and got much better peace of mind. :)

    We were skipping the NT Scan altogether and just going with either CVS or Amnio, but then last minute DH decided we need to do the NT Scan, too. So did NT, Sequential, and Amnio, still waiting for the amnio results.

    FWIW, with DS my results came back as 1:47. He's totally fine. With this pregnancy, I've been told to expect similar results on the NT Scan. But, having had a healthy baby with scary test results gives me some comfort going in to it. And, if things come back funky, I'll go for the Materni21 testing before an amnio. Best of luck to you!
