Do All babies wear newborn?

#1 was a boy and I have a few neutral things as we didn't know the sex. This time, i know the baby is a girl.  I have bought a few things, including some newborn sleep and play...is there any chance she migiht not fit in them if she was a big baby?  Just wondering before I wash them....I can always try the newborn stuff from my son on her first.

  • No they don't all, but I suspect if your DS was in newborn sizes for a little while, your DD may roughly be the same size as him (well, at least not gigantically bigger).

I would buy more 0-3 mo girl clothes, and plan on using the gender neutral newborn stuff.  You could always pick up a handful more girly NB clothes after you take DD home if you need it.

  • Yes, my first didn't fit in newborn clothes (10lbs at birth and long though he did drop to 8.5lbs in the hospital). On the other hand, my second child wore newborn until 3 months.

It will really depend on how your LO carries their weight/height/etc and subsequent babies are sometimes larger than your first child though it wasnt the case for me. If your first was 6lbs at term and average height/short the chances you'll have an 8.5+lb and/or long baby at birth is low. If your LO was on the larger side of "average" I'd stick to 0-3 personally.

  • No I would bring three different sizes newborn, 0-3 and 3 months. When my daughter was born she weighed 9lbs and due to her not breathing when she came out she was very swollen. I had to bring her 3 month clothes to wear because the hospital didn't have anything that size.

  • All of my children wore newborn, ranging from 6lbs to 8lbs at birth.  I find that even if they only wear it for a few weeks it's worth it.  It's possible you will have a big baby and not use them, maybe keep the tags on and receipts, just in case?!

  • No I never bothered with newborn size with either of my children.  DD1 was 8 lbs at birth and was in 0-3 months from birth until 2 months.  I had like 1 newborn outfit someone gave me and she only fit in it for about 3 weeks= Total waste!  DS2 was 8 lbs 11oz at birth and never wore newborn except for his coming home outfit.  Save your money and don't bother with newborn.  Unless of course you like buying stuff you'll only use for like 2 weeks.

  • Both my 7lb8oz girl (wore for about 3 weeks) and my 8lb13oz (about 2 weeks) boy wore newborn stuff.  You just don't need much of it.  The safer bet is the 0-3 size stuff.  I preferred the newborn clothes that actually fit in the very beginning though so I think it's a good idea to have some on hand.

  • My sons were big and still wore newborn for 2-3 weeks.  Most newborn labels say up to 8 lb but my sons were born at 8 lb 8 oz and 8lb 10 oz and wore them well.  0-3M would have been big and sloppy on them.
