Parenting after a Loss

Toddler Moms Check-in

Hi toddler moms. I'm sorry. Once again I suck and missed last week. But I promise to keep this going. Work and pregnancy have been very stressful. I will try to do better.

This check-in is for moms with a toddler(s) age 12-36 months.

What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment?

What challenges took place this past week? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.)

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?

QOTW: What are you getting LO for Christmas?

Re: Toddler Moms Check-in

  • She's starting to sing. It's super cute. I was singing "Baby It's Cold Outside" to her one day last week then the next morning she requested it and chimed in everytime I got to the "baby it's cold outside" line. H was dying laughing. She will also chime in for the "hurrahs" and the "boom boom boom" in the Ants Go Marching.

We're still having issues with her in the car. She just hates being in the car and unfortunately our commute gaurantees us at least 1.5 hours in the car per day. It's awful.

Hmm. Well, the singing is pretty funny. Other than that, not really.

Way more than I should be getting her. Or rather, Santa is getting her way too much. Her main gift is a big wheel, then she's getting lots of puzzles, books, more Duplos, LOL Elmo, a remote control bus, various educational games/toys like lacing beads, shape sorting game, geometric stacking toy...

  • What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment? She really likes to share her food. She has a little Ikea table at which we let her eat breakfast (and sometimes dinner). She likes to line her animals up and go down the line saying "Elmo bite" "Mickey bite" "Nemo bite" "Monkey bite" "Abigail bite" as she shoves the food in their mouths. It's pretty cute I'd say.

What challenges took place this past week? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.) We really need to get rid of the paci. She's the only one in her class that has one, and she only uses it for naps. I hate the damn things and she only likes the NB soothies or gum drops. I need to hide them all or something...

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently? Oh... Uh see first answer.

QOTW: What are you getting LO for Christmas? We got her the M&D play kitchen, some pots and pans, cutting food, blocks, connect 4 (she played with her cousin and loved it), and we'll probably get a few more food packs for the kitchen.
    I married a ginger.

  • He is totally digging on Buzz & all of the Toy Story movies. He got a small Buzz stuffed animal for his birthday & he takes it every where.
We are another in the 'need to get rid of the nuk' club. He only takes it when he is in his crib, but it's gotta go. Soon.
When he sees something he likes, normally cars in a book or Buzz in a book, he says "Oohhhh" & he shivers. It is the cutest thing ever.
He is getting a car track & we are getting a portable dvd player for our long car trips. My SD lives 2 hours away & the car ride is getting to be a bit much for the little guy. He'll probably get more cars & maybe Toy Story & Toy Story 2 dvd's.

  • She can "read" [recite] the very hungry caterpillar. That new this week. Also she big on art. Making stuff is fun.

Running away. Zomg it has to stop!
As far as the passie thing em had hers till a couple months passes 2 and we just "couldnt find it" one night and it was done. She never asked for it again because hers were "lost".

If she keeps acting like she is nothing!

  • What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment? Nothing new - we're in survival mode right now. DD has had a stomach virus that just won't quit, so the past 8 days have been a challenging time of throw-up and diarrhea.

What challenges took place this past week? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.) See above. Sick DD meant lots of nighttime waking which meant overtired, cranky DD and overtired, cranky mommy. We went to CVS for 5 minutes today to get some probiotics for her and she had a full-on, lying-on-the-floor-screaming temper tantrum at the cash register. I was the mom carting her kid out of the store under one arm.

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently? If she did, we were all too tired to notice.

QOTW: What are you getting LO for Christmas? Curious George jammies, and DH found some old Thomas the Tank Engine books on eBay. I think some family members are getting her the IKEA play kitchen. She loves pretend fishing, so I'm making her a magnetic fishing toy with little felt fish and a fishing pole with a "hook" to catch them.

    ETA: Typo.

I was really proud of her yesterday :)  She pointed at the eye of her stuffed bunny and said "Eye!"

She's been struggling with her morning nap and only taking about 30min.  Which results in the need for an afternoon nap yet she refuses.  So that means we go for a drive.  ::sigh:: It's like I have a newborn again.

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?

She's getting really animated when she "talks" with her hands.  I don't think either DH or I are big hand talkers, so it's weird to us.  But adorable :)

QOTW: What are you getting LO for Christmas?

We got her a play kitchen, wooden puzzles, and some books from us.  Santa is stuffing her stocking with little toys and goldfish.  And he's getting her a Radio Flyer tricycle.

  • What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment? Walking around pulling his FP Chatterbox phone around behind him.  Constantly.  He also looooves when I let him walk around outside.

Oh and I noticed today that he cut a molar!  It apparently has been through for maybe a couple weeks (it was pretty far along), but this was the first time I got a look in the vault in awhile.  Woo hoo for a molar sneaking in when two canines cut!

What challenges took place this past week? No challenges really.  He's been all over the boards with his naps the past couple weeks...3 short ones (<30 mins) last week and now 1 longer one (45 mins) this week.  I've slept past 6am the past two mornings though (first time since Sept for that, often he was up at 430am) so I'm not complaining AT ALL.

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently? He doesn't talk yet per se, but he tried to sing with me yesterday.  I had him sitting in the glider and rocked it while singing "Rockaby Dylan" (to the tune of "Rockabye Baby") and he laid his head back and started going 'aaaaaahaaahahhaaaaah'.  He did pretty good with the tone.  For doing things he's cracking me up daily.  Today it was him going absolutely bananas with bubble wrap when a Christmas gift arrived.  Yesterday it was him very cutely handing his snack to the dog (have to put the kibosh on that one, but it was adorable).

QOTW: What are you getting LO for Christmas? His big gift this year was his PBK chair.  We actually already have it set up since the box was so big.  He has no clue what it's for, lol.
