We do not have a video monitor, just a normal sound one but I am trying to talk DH into one, and groupon has a sale on one. We are sleep training and would rather see if he is alseep and make noise or just awake and making noise but DH doesn't think we need one. Do if you have one do you love it? If you don't, do you wish you had one?
This is the one I was thinking of getting...

We are the same--helps you distinguish between "real" crying because there is a problem and "fake crying" because they are bored and would rather be playing than taking a nap.
Also, the other day, I saw C appear to be holding something in her hands and chewing on it...turns out she had actually bitten a sliver of wood off of one of the vertical rails on her crib (holy crap!) and was chewing on a wood sliver. If I hadn't just happened to have looked at the monitor, she might have swallowed it. As it was, I was able to salvage it and wood glue the chunk back onto her crib--but now I am trying to decide if we should put those breathable bumpers all the way up to prevent more crib cannibalism...

.... okay, I could if I had to but of never choose to!
It really does help to see if he's laying down and fussing in which case he'll fall back asleep, or standing up and fussing in which case he won't.
I can't process not having one. We use it daily. I think without it, I'd be checking on her nonstop and therefore, waking her up because we have hardwood floors.
Plus, I love seeing all the crazy positions she sleeps in.
This! I didn't really want one but DH talked me into putting it on the registry. It was one of the best gifts we got!! So nice to be able to check on her from wherever I am in the house. And has been great for at night to see if its just a sleep noise or if she's actually awake and needs something.
Are you planning on having a second child? It makes a little more sense to get one this late in the game if you are.
We don't have one and I have never thought that I needed one. That being said, our LO STTN and if she does wake up, there is usually good reason for it so I go in. Also, her bedroom is right next to ours and I can literally see her in her crib from my bed if the doors are open.
We have the Motorola one and I love it. I would be running upstairs to check on him every 5min without it. I can talk to him through it, it has music I can start playing if he is rustling around (has helped a few times), and a second camera can be added (for future kid later). I like watching him sleep and seeing what position he is in. Also, when he starts to whine, sometimes I can see him reach out, grab his paci, and stick it back in his mouth- so I know there's no reason to go up there.
this! We got one at about 4 or 5 months and wish we would have gotten it right away!
