those that have video monitors

We do not have a video monitor, just a normal sound one but I am trying to talk DH into one, and groupon has a sale on one. We are sleep training and would rather see if he is alseep and make noise or just awake and making noise but DH doesn't think we need one. Do if you have one do you love it? If you don't, do you wish you had one?

This is the one I was thinking of getting...

  • We have one and I love it! We can see when she falls asleep, we can see if she has a real problem like getting her legs stuck through the slats or not, I can check on her without having to go in, etc. We have the hand held Summer one. I don't know your brand but I love having one!

  • We don't and I wish we did! When she was a newborn she would move around without making noise and I wish I had a video monitor to see her with!

  • We are the same--helps you distinguish between "real" crying because there is a problem and "fake crying" because they are bored and would rather be playing than taking a nap.

Also, the other day, I saw C appear to be holding something in her hands and chewing on it...turns out she had actually bitten a sliver of wood off of one of the vertical rails on her crib  (holy crap!) and was chewing on a wood sliver.  If I hadn't just happened to have looked at the monitor, she might have swallowed it.  As it was, I was able to salvage it and wood glue the chunk back onto her crib--but now I am trying to decide if we should put those breathable bumpers all the way up to prevent more crib cannibalism...

  • We have one and love it.  DH originally didnt want to register for it, but agreed to put it on there.  Now he loves it too.  It's nice to be able to check in on DS without having to go into the room.  It's nice too in the middle of the night if he wakes up crying...we can see if he's going to put himself back to sleep or if he's sitting/standing up, which means "feed me!".

  • We have the summer infant one and I love it.  It keeps me from going into his room so much.  I can easily see if he is still asleep; fussing while laying down (and likely to fall asleep again on his own); or if he is standing up, bouncing and fussing, which will turn into crying, which will not settle back down on it's own.  It is also so much fun to be able to watch him play in his crib and babble away to himself.  Just being able to see him makes me feel much better.

  • We have that Levana monitor and have no complaints. I didn't register for one because I didn't think I'd want one. Once we moved Asher into his room around 6 months, I wanted to be able to see him without having to go into his room to check on him. We haven't had any problems with the Levana monitor.

  • I can't imagine NOT having one! I know people parented for a bazillion years without them but I certainly could not!

.... okay, I could if I had to but of never choose to!

It really does help to see if he's laying down and fussing in which case he'll fall back asleep, or standing up and fussing in which case he won't.

  • I can't process not having one. We use it daily. I think without it, I'd be checking on her nonstop and therefore, waking her up because we have hardwood floors.

Plus, I love seeing all the crazy positions she sleeps in.  Smile

This! I didn't really want one but DH talked me into putting it on the registry. It was one of the best gifts we got!! So nice to be able to check on her from wherever I am in the house. And has been great for at night to see if its just a sleep noise or if she's actually awake and needs something.

  • Are you planning on having a second child?  It makes a little more sense to get one this late in the game if you are.

We don't have one and I have never thought that I needed one.  That being said, our LO STTN and if she does wake up, there is usually good reason for it so I go in.  Also, her bedroom is right next to ours and I can literally see her in her crib from my bed if the doors are open.

  • If I were doing it again I would buy a regular security camera and download an app to let us view it on our smart phones.  TOO cool.  We have the summer infant video monitor.  Love it.  We bought one with all three kids as technology changed so much (my first one 8 years ago was closer to u/s quality and was the size of a small TV).

  • Have one and love it! We have this one. It was so easy to set up and so easy to use. I always have it when he's napping or sleeping for the night because it's hard to hear him until he's in a full melt down when I'm somewhere else in the house.

  • It's the best thing I never knew I always wanted. I don't think I could have sleep trained without it.
  • We have one in DS's room, but not in DD's and I still wish we had two. Even when they're three, you'll want to see what's going on in there when they're supposed to be sleeping!

  • Love, love love my video monitor.  Go for it.
  • We have the Motorola one and I love it. I would be running upstairs to check on him every 5min without it. I can talk to him through it, it has music I can start playing if he is rustling around (has helped a few times), and a second camera can be added (for future kid later). I like watching him sleep and seeing what position he is in. Also, when he starts to whine, sometimes I can see him reach out, grab his paci, and stick it back in his mouth- so I know there's no reason to go up there.

  • We have the AngelCare one, and I can't imagine not having it! We're downstairs and DS is upstais, so if we didn't have it, I would be up and down the stairs all night hearing his noises (he's a loud sleeper). I wasn't going to get one, but DH talked me into it, and I'm thrilled he did! However, if we had to do it over again, I'd get one of the things you could watch on your iPad or smart phone. That's cool!
