~*~*MSPI Moms Weekly Check-In*~*~

Welcome! This is a check-in for moms who are/were on a dairy free and/or soy free diet due to their LO's intolerance. The check-ins will be posted every Monday morning on the Breastfeeding board and XP'd to the Food Allergy board. I will RP a link to the check-in on the Breastfeeding board on Monday evenings for the nighttime posters, if the check-in isn't on the first page of posts. If you'd like to join the group, just post an intro here and dive in!

To check out the archive of our previous check-ins, please see the MSPI Moms Blog.

QOTW: Now that Thanksgiving is under your belt. How are you feeling about Christmas? Anyone hosting? Or are you traveling to be with family? Have work parties to attend? Are you looking forward to it all, or stressing about the food aspect?

Re: ~*~*MSPI Moms Weekly Check-In*~*~

  • Now that I've gone through thanksgiving I don't have any more fears or worries. I was perfectly content with thanksgiving and have found that I can eat just about anything I want as long as I make it myself.

This is my first Christmas I am hosting and it's my first Christmas with my LO! I am super excited. My family is very supportive and tries to make things that I can eat. I will make then main and one side and dessert and family brings the rest.

The only day I know will be a little tough is cookie bake day. All the women in my family get together and bake hundreds of cookies and treats and I know it will be hard to not sample everything but only eat the cookies I am making.

  • At Thanksgiving I was pretty new to the MSPI diet, in fact we weren't even sure LO had MSPI for sure.

Now I'm feeling more confident in choosing safe foods.  We're having company stay with us, but the main Christmas meal will be at my Mom's.  I'll be bringing a plate of food for myself to her house.  The rest of the time I'll be cooking so it will be even easier to avoid dairy.

  • My mom is hosting Christmas this year & she is willing to cook everything MSPI-safe (I love my mom!).  She's making the works: turkey, potatoes, stuffing (with homemade MSPI-safe bread), pecan pie.  Seriously, my mom deserves an award or something.  Smile

  • I cut cow's milk out of my diet for DS a month ago. I recently also ditched soy milk and am drinking almond milk instead. Fortunately I have been ok eating hidden dairies. Thanksgiving was easy because we were at my parents' house and my mom and I talk all the time, so she knows all about my son's poop and belly issues. We're traveling to H's family for Xmas and will have to put in a special request for almond milk but I'm sure that'll be fine.

Edit: and here's a brief intro since I've never posted in the MSPI thread... I'm a FTM. EBF. Son is 3mo old today. He had horrible diaper rash from when he was about 5 days until about 6 weeks old because he was pooping small amounts 20 times a day. I've seen such a huge difference since quitting cows milk.

  • I think Christmas is harder than Thanksgiving because it seems like it is a whole month of temptation rather than just a day. I think I will just bake a lot of safe treats so I don't feel left out.

  • I'm feeling much more relaxed about Christmas. I'm hosting a couple of meals so I'll be in charge of the menu, haha. And honestly it's probably a good thing that I can't eat all the holiday treats.
  • We are having my inlaws for dinner. I am making ham, vegan green bean casserole, stuffing, pumpkin bread, sweet potatoes, and then whatever regular food they want to make. We did a trial run for Thanksgiving, and I was thrilled with how it all turned out. It made me feel almost normal :-)
