I'm not too sure I want to potty train using underwear as I don't want her to pee on our couches or her pbk chair so I've been trying to potty train with pull-ups.
I have to be honest and say that DD (who will be 2.5yrs old in a few days) is totally ready since she's actually been able to use a potty or toilet for about a year now (but she would only use the potty at the sitter and would refuse to use it at home or use it occasionally at home until about 2 months ago) but she just can't be bothered to tell me that she needs to go!
Now that she is willing to go (with a lot of bribing) I really want to get her potty trained. She will tell me she wants to use the potty when she wakes up in the morning or after a nap but otherwise, I am constantly at her on using the potty.
I got her to use the potty a total of 12 times already today (it is now 6pm) and she went 9 times out of 12 and also had three accidents in between. Any tips/advice would be great!
Re: Anyone potty train with pull-ups?
With my DS I PT him at 26 months. It took four days to fully day train him and two weeks to fully day and night train him. I never used pull ups. He ran around naked for the first few days. I had the potty in the dinning room, center of the house, easy to get to. He did not do good with me asking him if he needed to go so I stopped asking. He would just go sit when he needed to go.
We also did not use pull ups at night. After he was day trained he went straight into big boy underwear 24/7 (naps and night time). He did really well. Sure we had to change the sheets at night, but not that many times and never for nap. We also limited his water intake at night to nothing after dinner and had him go potty before bed time.
Now I am about to start PTing my daughter and I have a feeling she will not be as easy.
DD only wears pull-ups at night. We did the 3 day method and it took a good 5 days before she was telling us she had to go. We had multiple accidents on the floor, one on the PBK chair and none on our couches, beds or in the car during those 5 days. I don't think we'd have been successful if we used pull-ups as undies. We threw out diapers day 1 and haven't used one since.
We started DD when she was 27 months and I'd say she's 90%. The other 10% is nightime.
DD1 was 2y5m and took a couple months until I considered her fully potty trained.
DD2 started at 2 yrs, took a break where she refused to use the potty, then started using it again. A couple months ago, at 2y3m, I would have considered her potty trained. Now we're going through another stubborn phase where she will only use the potty if it's her idea. She has 12 accidents a day, so I don't know that I'd consider her to be potty trained anymore. It doesn't matter if she's wearing undies or a pull up. Results are the same. Some days she can hold it; some days she can't. She does still run to the bathroom every time she has to go, so I guess at least she still knows. I just wish she'd give herself more time to get there.
ETA: Night time is totally different and not something I believe you can train. That will happen when DC is physiologically ready.
