No -- I think you're safe with any lego set in that age range. When my son was 5 or 6, he loved Lego Star Wars stuff because he was really into Star Wars. But he was really too young to build a 500-piece model. We really needed to do it together if he was workign on anything complicated like a space ship or a vehicle. Now, at 8 he is less "obsessed" with Star Wars, but still likes it and he still likes lego sets. My guy also likes to just build Now he needs less help on a complicated lego set. A 12 year old could do the same set independently.
My kids also like the lego games and plain bricks to build whatever they want.
