Do you wake your (10mo) baby in the morning?

This is certainly not a complaint, but lately DD has been sleeping a little later than usual (the latest has been 9:45am, she went to bed about an hour later than usual the night before). I've just been letting her sleep bc I figure it means she needs the extra rest. But it throws her schedule off for the day. I can adjust the schedule and make things work though. It isn't a huge inconvenience.

My question is, do you let your child sleep in or do you wake them in order to preserve his/her schedule? The softy in me wants to let her sleep bc it seems like that's just a perk to having a SAHM and no particular place to be in the AM :)

Thanks, I hope you're all having a happy Monday!

DS is 15 months & the only time we've woken him up is for a road trip or to get somewhere by a certain time early in the morning. So only a few times.

For him, even if he sleeps later than usual, his schedule is still pretty set. It usually only means that his nap will be a little later than normal.

Yes, the only time I wake her is if we have somewhere to be. But even then, I'll let her sleep while I get ready so I can do so in peace and then I get her up to get dressed.

I wish I had your problem though!

  • Also, she could be going through a little growth spurt so the extra sleep is probably needed!

  • I only wake the kids up if we have somewhere to be. Otherwise they usually wake me up no matter what time they get up. I'm not a morning person at all, so if they sleep until 10 there's a good chance I'm still asleep or just waking up myself.

  • I think I'd just let her sleep, and get things done around the house. If she woke up at 9:45, I'd only give her one nap that day, around 1:00/2:00. But she gets up at 6:00, so this is not an issue, haha.

  • I never wake DS up. He's a crappy sleeper so I take whatever sleep he'll give me.

If it was impacting the rest of the day, naptime or bedtime, I would consider waking her up. But if she's in a good mood all day, naps fine and goes to bed fine without putting up a fight, I'd let her sleep.

  • have you tried putting her to bed earlier at night? That might help.

  • Nope, I never wake unless we have somewhere to go.

This is probably my guess, too. Thanks!

This. My LO is 6 months and he sleeps until 10:30 every morning, and I'm usually in bed right beside him. haha!

  • My 8 month old has never slept past 5:30 AM - I dream of this problem!!!

But, in actuality, if he were to sleep later we would need to wake him by 6/6:15 at the latest due to his nap schedule - he has to finish his 2nd nap by 2 PM to coordinate with DS1's school pick up. There is no "go with the flow" when an older child is in school and activities!

  • No, I don't think I have ever purposefully woke up any of my kids in the morning, but they are both morning kids so I am extremely lucky if I get to sleep until 7AM.

  • On weekends, I let both the kids sleep until they wake up.  On week days, I will let DS sleep until it is time to take DD to school, but half of the time he is already awake.  Generally, though, he wakes up around the same time every day.  If he sleeps late, he sometimes won't nap, which is OK as long as he is getting enough sleep every day.

  • I would say only if you have to be somewhere. I have to wake my 14 month old up often since I have to get my other ones from school, but I also wake her if I want her to go back down at a certain time. She is used to it though and a very easy sleeper. I wouldn't have dreamed of doing it with my first-and there wasn't any need to.
  • I let DS (15mths) sleep in until he wakes on his own. I figure if he is sleeping he needs the sleep. His schedule is generally the same even when he does sleep later, except his naps might be a little bit later but nothing that cant be adjusted. Bedtime is always the same. I have gone by this the whole time. The only times that I will wake him up is if we have somewhere we need to be in the morning, drs appt, playdate or something of the sort. But those are very rare.

  • I only wake DS up if we have some place to be. He's pretty flexible on where he naps so if necessary he will sleep in the car if we have to be out in about.

He always goes down for his nap 3 hours after waking up. So if he's up at 8, he is down by 11, etc. Last night he slept from 5:30pm until 8:45 am. He still went down for his nap around 11:40! Day time schedule is pretty predictable for us.
