earrings with safety backing

If your LO has pierced ears to you still use the safety backing earrings or regular backings. My LO's are 3 now and haven't really touched there earrings since they had them pierced and I was wondering if maybe I could get regular ones now.

DD has hoops with a ball that screws on so there are no backs - this is what she was pieced with. I would check with the piercer (I did a lot of research on mine).
