Changing nap routine?

My 7 1/2 mo old sometimes nurses to sleep for his naps, but most often I put him in the swing until he's drowsy and then move him to his crib where he resettles himself and falls asleep. But now he's getting too heavy for the swing! Today I tried rocking him in the glider instead and it didn't really help him fall asleep. :( I think part of why the swing works is because I put him in it and leave the room and he gets bored, heh.

Should I try to ease from one routine into a new one--maybe rock in the glider, then put him in the swing, and gradually shorten the time in the swing? Or just switch routines entirely in the hopes that he'll get it in a few days? I just want to make this as easy as possible for both of us ... he has always been really stubborn about naps and I get stressed when he refuses to sleep even though he's clearly tired.

Re: Changing nap routine?

  • Lately my LO has had a harder time napping.

We go up in his room, turn the sound machine on, and rock him for about 10min and he falls asleep on my chest. Then I transfer him to his crib and he barely moves a muscle.

I don't mind rocking each time bc I'm a working mom and on friday (when i'm off)/saturday/sunday I love that extra bonding time
