Babies: 6 - 9 Months

8 month old not a fan of solids...

How much formula does your LO get a day, and how much solids at this point?  My LO wont eat much more than 3.5 oz of solids a day, one time a day, and does about 24oz of formula.  Should she be eating more solids by now?  I know each baby is different, but I feel like maybe she should be eating more?  She just in the last week started crawling a bit (yay!!!) and only has her 2 bottom teeth, so I dont know if that makes a difference?  Any advice would help, thanks!!

  • Daniel drinks between 24-30oz of formula a day and also gets some in rice cereal.  Sometimes giving him something to play with while eating gets him distracted enough to eat from a spoon.  Other times, giving him some cheerios will help too.  You could also give him some small soft bits of food for him to work on picking up and feeding himself.

Right now, food is just for practice.  The formula is the most important element of his diet.

  • I could have written this post. Our babies are EXACTLY the same down to the two teeth. I try to give him solids in the morning and he only takes a bite or two. He eats most of his solids in the evening. Every once in a while he will eat up to six ounces in the evening but that's only if he is eating something he really really likes. Our pedi said don't worry about it. My LO has never been a big eater. He has always eaten less than normal or on the low end of normal but has been growing just fine. He just isn't a big eater. We plan to just continue to offer him solids and as he gets bigger and older we are hoping it takes. At this rate he will be on formula forever!

  • My DD isn't a huge eater in general, but we did BLW and she didn't eat much at all until 8.25-8.5 months... then all of a sudden she started hoovering her food. The jump coincided with a growth spurt as well. I was all nervous about her not being into solids because I didn't want her to be behind or be a picky eater or something, but now that she is eating more I realize that it's really not that big of a deal. As a PP said, formula is most important right now.
  • My son is chowing down at 7 1/2 mo (but he's been eating since 4mo)

    2 jars (4oz ea) 4 times a day...just added the 4th meal. 8a, 12p, 5pm, 7pm

plus BFing every few hours (4-6oz).

PLUS snacks of mum mum teething crackers, puffs, mashed fruit, scrambled eggs....

He got his bottom teeth at 5 1/2 mo and getting his top teeth in now; avg weight, and tall for his age as far as stats go...

I think all babies are different, though- but I heard boys eat more. If this is any indication, I'm going to be buying alot of groceries for the next 20 years lol
