Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Sleeping

My baby will be 1 this week and is still not sleeping through the night.  He wakes up at least once wanting a bottle (sometimes more.)  Anyone else had to deal with this?  Any suggestions?  I'm sure I should have let him cry it out well before now to get him used to sleeping through...but I didn't--I figured he'd outgrow it on his own.  It's been so long since I went through this with my older kids (now teenagers) that I don't remember how we did it with them.

Re: Sleeping

  • my child is not yet 1 (he will be 10 months on the 28th) but he is still the same way he is breastfeed and wakes up at least once at night to nurse. I thought I was the only one!

  • My lo did this and still does it occasionally. I just get up and give her the milk.

  • DS didn't completely sleep through the night until somewhat recently. If he did, it meant up at 4am... which still probably isn't considered through the night...

FI suggested a bowl of cereal like 30 min before bed, and it worked pretty good. I find that I have to really pump him full of food right before bed and he'll sleep longer. Basically cluster feeding for the older baby.

Our schedule looks like this.. for some reference

5pm: supper time, usually 10-14 oz of food

    6pm: 3-4 oz bottle

    6:45ish: bowl of cereal

    7:30: 5-6 oz bottle.(the past few nights it's been more like 8!!!)

I've also been working on letting him fuss it out for a few months. I say fuss rather than cry, because with him it was clearly a whimper, and more like "mama, I'm lonely and could use snuggles with a warm bottle..." rather than famished and actually needing food. Plus, i could tell it wasn't about the food, becasue he'd fall back asleep after eating an ounce or so.

Every baby is different, (and every mama).. but I'm hoping you get your full nights sleep soon! GL.

  • My lil guy is 11 months today and I feel like he is never gonna sleep through the night! haha. I am still breastfeeding and he is still sleeping by me. I have been trying to get him in his crib, but even if I sneak him in there it only last a short time before he screams. I know I should let him cry it out, but between my husband and I, one of us gives in and grabs him. I find him feeding through the night often...I've tried counting but it all kind of blurres together, it might be 3-5 times, although I doubt that it is truly from hunger, but more of a security thing. He eats a lot of food through out the day, and I try to feed him a good meal and breast milk shortly before bed. Sometimes I feel like a failure, but I have a 6 yr old who turned out okay. She breastfed til 24 months and I got her in her own crib around a year. I think all babies can vary with their temperament or personality and metabolism. My 6 yr old daughter still eats a lot more in the amounts and times than her peers, yet she has a healthy, lean build. So, don't be too discouraged or worried. I am in the same boat as you!
