Just weeks away from 2u2...advice?

I may or may not have introduced myself awhile back, but I can't remember. Anyway, I am 33 weeks pregnant with my little boy and I have a 15 month old daughter. Any advice on things I can do to prepare her for his arrival? Best way to introduce her to him after his arrival? She's a definite mommy's girl, but does well with Daddy as long as I am not around. Just looking for any advice anyone can give me :)

  • I am just two weeks into the 2u2 experience but I am finding a few things that have helped to keep things working smoothly.  Make sure that you keep your diaper bag stocked (I do this every night before I put my boys down).  Even if you are not planning to go out the next day, it is nice to know it is ready if something pops up.  I have been laying out the boys clothing and cloth diapers each night so that it does not take as long to get them ready for the day.  Every night I fill up 6 sippy cups with juice and water and put them in the fridge.  I can grab them with one hand while nursing DS2 and I don't have to make DS1 wait.  I also keep a snack cup with berries or other snacks ready for the same reason.  When I change one boy, I change the other.  I also have them on the same nap schedule right now which gives me an hour or more to myself in the afternoon to rest.  The best advice I can offer is to get a wrap/sling/mei tai and carry the baby as much as possible so that your hands are free to deal with your toddler.  I don't really have tips on introducing the new LO.  We have just been making a big deal of it when DS1 shows interest in the baby (cheering when he gives him a kiss or encouraging him when he is touching "easy") It seems to be working so far.  The first few days were HELL but we are starting to find our stride now!

  • No advise as I am about as far along as you and my son will be 20-21 months when the baby arrives.  i did read last week, which I thought was good advise....when you bring the older child into the hospital and they see you for the first time after the baby is born, don't be holding the baby....maybe meet them outside the room or have the baby in the basinett and have a special moment with them before they see the baby.

I've talked to our pediatrician about this to...he siad to make sure to praise the older child, have them help, like can you get mommy a diaper. He also said try to carve out one on one time w/the older child...and if you can don't mess w/their routine too much.  My son is in daycare and he advised keeping him FT vs. PT, which is what we planned. Financially, the price is really not a big diffrence, but as a mom I'd feel guilty being home and him in daycare...the dr said, which makes sense, he's better off there than feeling ignored if your all at home and trying to tend to a newborn....I have to think about this....
