So this might be a strange question, but how active is your toddler's imagination?
M has a very active imagination, borderline concerning to me because I didn't think it was supposed to be THIS developed quite yet.
He points to imaginary things allllll the time ("Look mama! The monster's on the couch!" "There's an elephant sitting by me." etc.) This morning he woke up insisting that there was a polar bear who hung out with him all night (we went to the lights at the zoo and he wanted to see the polar bears but we never got to them). He carried on all day about this polar bear who was in his crib with him, talked to him, even told him he was going to eat him. (Um, scary?) And when I put him in bed tonight he looked under his covers, over the side of the crib, and finally said, "Polar bear allllll gone. He's at daddy's house."
I'm just curious where he stands compared to others his age, and is it weird that I'm kind of concerned about it?
Re: Imagination (concerning?)
Eta spelling
We have it Wednesday, so I'll probably mention it then. I knew he was ahead, language-wise, but this imagination thing is a whole new ball game! lol
This is kinda where we're at. DS will take toys/objects & pretend they're other things mostly. He takes his stacking cups & puts them in the kitchen cabinet & says he's baking a cake or making soup. He'll sip the cup & say, mm good soup! lol. And we all know about his Fireman obsession by now - he'll pretend anything is a fireman pole or hose & use it to put out a pretend fire.
I am really interested in what your ped has to say about it! It sounds like M's imagination is really advanced!
Wow! My kiddo was trying to feed someone or something in the living room his food the other day and giggling. It was kind of creepy, but that's the extent of it at our house. Of course, he doesn't have anywhere near the vocabulary of Miles though! I would think a good imagination is just a sign that he's highly intelligent and wouldn't worry!
This sounds a lot like G. I think its cool that M has such a great imagination.
Yeah, I have no idea if A has that level of imagination because his speech skills aren't that good that he could express it yet. His imaginative play is a little more grounded: he likes to feed his toys, cook soup in his kitchen, call his grandparents on the "phone" (which is usually this u shaped block we have).
I wonder if he's having dreams and he's telling them to you, but he doesn't realize they are dreams...
I'm thinking he's definitely dreaming and recalling those dreams. He woke up at 3 AM last night asking me to bring him "the food over there!" When I asked him "what food?" he looked confused for a second, pointed across the room, then finally settled back to sleep. Weird!
This sounds like us exactly!
I think B is going to be a very literal child, like me.
The most she does is pretend to eat her play food or pretend to feed it to us. Her verbal skills also aren't good enough to express herself like that and again, she's mostly extremely literal. She's a very serious child in general.

B occasionally has a 3 word sentence, but it's primarily 1 or 2 words, so he's no where near as verbal as Miles.
Most of B's self-initiated pretend play involves sleep. Either he pretends to sleep and then wakes up, or he puts his stuffed animals to sleep - complete with blanket and back pats. He also likes to turn his frisbee into a hat. Oh, and he turns his food into cars and airplanes.
