I just realized that I haven't put much thought into what I will do if I go into labor at work. If my water breaks or contractions start I figured I would just drive myself home and wait for my husband. I will leave work immediately if I experience any regular contractions (I'm not feeling any obvious contractions yet) no matter how far apart they are. I guess I figure that chances are I will still be capable of driving and if things progress more quickly than expected then I will pull over and call 911. Is this crazy and or stupid? I guess I'm not really sure what to expect and I don't want to go to the hospital right away. Work is about 30 minutes from home and home is about 30 minutes from the hospital. Work is about 30 minutes from the hospital.
Just curious how others plan to handle going into labor at work.
Re: What's your plan if labor starts at work?
I don't care how slowly I think labor is starting, if I start having contractions at work, I'm dialing for back-up. I have an hour + commute, and I've experienced what real contractions feel like. I don't want to be responsible for an accident.
So, my plan is, to call my husband and have him take one other person to come pick me up, so that the other person can take my car from the facility, whether I'm going home or to the birthing center from there.
My go-bag and the car seat will be in the car from here on out.
I work at an univ so we have campus police and a medical center. I can or one of co-workers can call emergency.
My problem is that I still have to get stuff for my hospital bag, comfy PJs for after, socks. For some reason I'm down to 4 pairs of socks, I have no idea where they went to lol.

Jan 15 NOV siggy challenge:
I had planned to work til the 21st...complications sent me into maternity leave early. Anyway, the plan was for me to send my students to the classroom next to mine to get the teacher, she was going to put on a movie or something for the kids until a sub got there and while I waited for my husband to come get me. It's about an hour commute for me to go home, then 2 hours in the opposite direction to the hospital...so it made more sense for him to come to me
If my water broke, I wasn't exactly sure how I was going to explain that to 20 first grade children...but the plan was about the same. Get them out of the room and occupied so they didn't worry.
As it was, when I did semi-collapse at work, in front of the children...they were taken to another teachers room, I was taken to the nurses office and eventually taken to the doctor before my hubby could get there. All the teachers on my campus are women and they over ruled me when I said I would wait for DH. He ended up being 15 minutes behind us by the time we got to the doctor.
It was never in the plan for me to drive anywhere...too many things are unknown and I didn't want to risk me losing control of the car, or something like that.
I only work 20-30 minutes from the hospital, that being said, regardless of how I feel if labor were to start while I'm at work, I will NOT be driving myself.
There are plenty of people here who have already told me they will be driving me. My boss also has all MH's #'s to be reached at work should I not think to call him right away.
I would call DH to come get me and bring me home or to the hospital depending on how I felt. I only work 20 minutes from home, but with the way my contractions progressed last time, I wouldn't have been able to drive through them and it just isn't worth the risk to me.
