Is Theraflu safe?

I'm really coming down with something...my throat is starting to hurt and I'm rather congested. I have the theraflu tea packets and I'm having trouble finding out whether it is safe or not.

Does anyone have a medication list or experience with Theraflu daytime or nightime. Thanks so much for the help!

When you are sick the only thing you can take is tylenol and robitussin. Sorry.

When I had a cold, I called the Pediatrician's office and that's what they told me. They said that if you take anything for a cold (theraflu, dayquil, nyquil, tylenol cold, etc), you must pump and dump for 24 hours from the time you take it. So that's an option.

I did take airborne since it is all natural, and DS was ok with that. I also took lots of lemon juice for the vitamin C and used the lemon peels to make tea at night with honey. That helped a lot.

So let's see.... Motrin is rated L1 for safety[safest drug list]. It works on aches, pains, headache, sinus pain, sore throats and swelling in your nasal passages better than tylenol in my opnion. Tylenol is also L1.

Robitussin has varying types of cough meds most are safe, but all are not created equal.

Dextromethorphan is safe (rated L1) for cough.

Guiafinesin will thin your cough and nasal congestion so it comes out easier. it is rated L2 (safer drug list). This is the main ingredient in some Robitussin and in Mucinex.

Antihistamines can help with runny noses and allergy feelings that may come with the cold. Zyrtec, Benedryl, Claritin are all rated L2 --safer drug list. I don't take Benedryl cause it makes me feel all dried out, which in theory makes me think my milk is drying up. some people it doesn't make you feel that way, and they are fine. other antihistamines, primarily if you see them offered in a children't formula you are safe to take. I would start with half doses just to see how you react--they may make you too sleepy to watch the baby well.

saline nose sprays of course are safe, as are neti pots and saline nose rinses. Afrin type nose sprays are also considered safe, but they may give you a rebound effect of clogged nose if you use them for more than a couple days.

humidifiers are good, raising the head of your bed, chicken soup, gatorade and increased fluids and lots of sleep.

someone mentioned Sudafed--the current sudafed PE version is rated L3 because there are not a lot of studies on it, so that is the default rating if there is no evidence of risk. Dr. Hale says it's probably safe, and doesn't come with the big risk of milk supplyby lowering prolactin level-- like the old fashioned Sudafed with Pseudoephedrine-which now usually you have to sign for it behid the counter because they make meth with it.

someone mentioned Airborne--caution about using too much, as the water soluble vitamins (like C) if you get too much you just pee it out, but the fat soluble vitamins (like A) if you get too much can be bad for you.
