Which breast pump is your favorite? I will need to purchase one before going back to work so I can pump at work, but I'm not sure which one. The Ameda is slightly less expensive, so I was leaning towards that one. Cash is a little tight these days.
Check out this link. It is a chart that compares the two.
I used to own the Ameda PY, and currently own 3 Medela pumps (Harmony, Swing, and Freestyle), and I love the Medelas way more.
They have the same suction strength, but the speed on the Ameda is way slower. It only goes up to 60 pumps per minute, the Medela goes up to 110 pumps per minute. I need a faster speed to get a letdown, and the Ameda was so slow that I couldn't get a letdown.
And as for the closed system of the Ameda: I actually did once get milk in the tubes due to a very tiny tear in one of the diaphrams (during one of the very few times I got a letdown with it). It isn't impossible to get milk in the tubes because it is a closed system like they say. I have never had milk in the tubes with my Medela pumps
ETA: And the new Freestyles are closed systems so people can stop worrying about them being open systems. LINK
Honestly, I would go with anything Medela. I don't have the PISA, but I have heard great things about them.
I use the Ameda PY and I love it. I went back to work at 6 weeks and so far the Ameda pump has been great. I liked that it was slightly less expensive and is a closed system compared to the Medela.

Money is very tight in our household. Otherwise, I probably would have went with the PISA.

I can't speak to the other brands but I own and used the medela pisa for a year to pump at work. It was awesome and never had any problems with it. I have never experienced having milk get into the tubes so don't fret over comments about it not being a closed system. I also bought mine used....gasp! I bought all new tubing and other attachments and accessories. In all I paid 100 bucks. Well worth it. But...you should check and see what your insurance will cover. Some plans cover the cost of an electric pump. Some only cover a manual. But look into it! I think I've heard that all insurance plans have to cover something.
I love my PISA. I use it for at home, work, and bring it if I'm out of the house for a long time just in case.. I use it with a medela hands free bra and I can't imagine the freestyle would be any better. I mean, I can't get up and walk around but I can't imagine walking around with a pump attached to my breasts anyway.... I can play with the baby, be on the laptop, read, drive, or eat while pumping. I did buy the car adapter, but the battery pack that comes with it is fine for occasional use if I'm not near an outlet.
