Due Monday - little dilation (long)

Long time lurker and occasional commenter.

Ill be 40 weeks on 12/10. Went in on 12/3 and was checked and was 80% effaced and dilated to 1 have been having constant contractions anywhere from 7-30 minutes apart depending on my activity/resting.

Dh and I had to do fertility treatments due to LEEP performed about 4-5 years ago and build up of scar tissue due to the procedure. Dr was worried  about my cervix shortening early on in pregnancy and was checked every week for first 16 weeks  everything has been fine there. Now dr is saying that due to the scar tissue my cervix isn't dilating on its own.

He indicated he could "roto rooter" my cervix last week but since I was only 39 weeks and how painful it is he suggested waiting until 12/10 to see if I dilate on my own anymore.

Has anyone else had this procedure and problems with dilation? What happened to get labor going? I'm really not wanting a c-section.

  • I I haven't heard of or had that procedure done. However, my best friend had scar tissue that prevented her from dialating past 1cm. Her doctor gave her meds to stop the contractions (since they couldn't help dialate). She then scheduled an induction for her due date and the first thing the doctor did on induction day was break up her scar tissue. She got an epidural prior to the breaking of the scar tissue because the doctor mentioned the pain associated with that. After that she progressed fairly well.

I hope that information helps a little. Good luck to you.

  • That's what I'm thinking is going to happen to me. Have my official 40 week appt tomorrow. He said it was extremely painful to break the scar tissue and wanted to wait until 40 weeks. I'm so uncomfortable right now. Nausea, pressure, feels like I have to go to bathroom and then don't. More than normal discharge.
