NT Scan- how much H2O did you actually drink???

hi everyone, so this is my third baby, so I've done ultrasounds before, however, never one this early. I've only ever had them past 16 weeks, so I am curious how much water people actually drank before their scan. I am scheduled to have mine on Dec 19 and of course the form says to drink 1L.......the 18 week ultrasound I had with my son I had drank half that amount and they made me get rid of some because I was too full, but because I will not be as far along, I want to make sure I have enough to see, but not so much I'm going to burst. So, any help appreciated........

  • I wasn't asked to drink any water for any of my scans this time around.  Weird...I just realized that.

  • Nobody asked me to drink before my scans either. Hm.

  • I was told to drink 32 oz of water before my last ultrasound, so I did.  I drank the last of it right as I was getting out of my car at the hospital.  I was in so much pain that I couldn't even sit in the waiting room.  I went to the desk and when they found out that I was in pain, told me to go pee, but not all of it.  Then during my ultrasound I was told to go vacate twice more.  So I don't know why they told me to drink so much.  Maybe most women don't drink enough!
  • I just had mine and they do need a full bladder. The tech was super nice and half way through let me use the bathroom. There are certain reasons they needed the full bladder. I can't recall any of them since I was in awe looking at the scan!
  • Um, none.  In fact, I peed right before they called me back.

  • Thanks everyone...I know that my bladder fills pretty quick when I am drinking water, so I thinkg I will go for 8-12 and hope that's enough.  I hate that feeling of being in pain because your bladder is so full.  And of course, my bladder isn't what it used to be since the last 2 kiddos!!!!

  • I think the accuracy of the machines have gone up, so they don't ask you to drink water like they used to in the past.

  • I did not have to drink anything before my NT scan with my daughter they actually had me empty my bladder beforehand.  They had me do the same thing with the 20-week anatomy scan.  I noticed this with all my ultrasounds they wanted an empty bladder.

  • I had a bunch of appointments in the same building that day and went back and forth from ultrasound to other offices.  An hour before my NT scan they told me to empty my bladder.  Then they gave me two small bottles of water and told me to drink them.  I had to get up and empty my bladder because it was too full.

  • Hmm strange, I wasn't told to drink anything before either.  When they called me back, they also asked me if I had to use the restroom and allowed me to empty my bladder.  So, I guess each office is different.

  • I wasn't told to drink anything either.  In fact, on the information sheet the nurse handed to me before one of the scans it specifically stated you did NOT need a full bladder (emphasis theirs, not mine).
