Shrek the Musical

Has anyone taken their kids to see it? It is coming to our town in February 14 and DH and I have been talking about taking DS to see it. He will be 3 1/2 at that point. DH would take him by himself as I am due Feb 5th so there is no way I would be able to go (if by chance this baby is late and I am in the hospital or something, one of the grandparents would use the ticket and take DS). DS loves the movie Shrek and I think it would be a nice thing for DS to do with DH to get some one on one time since most likely there will be a new baby in the house. My biggest fear is that the show starts at 7:30 which is when DS usually goes to bed.

What do you think?

  • I think much of it should depend on how your child acts when he's bored.  I'd make the assumption that he might get bored at times (or during the whole play).  Any play adaptation of a cartoon is not ever quite as amusing as the cartoon version for a young kid and so it may not hold his attention.  If it doesn't, how does he act?  If he can still sit quietly, then I think it's a good idea.  If not, (and personally, my DD was too young at 3.5 to sit through a play like that) then I would say come up with a more kid-friendly idea.  Not only will DH worry about keeping DS quiet and from melting down (also likely that late at night)....but the people around him will not appreciate it if he can't sit through the show quietly too.  I think for me personally, I wouldn't risk it and go...but you know DS well enough to know what will happen if he gets bored or doesn't like that it's the "real" Shrek.  Good luck!
