Maternity leave in writing

Wow. So many birth stories, so many congrats and hugs!

Meanwhile, I'm still here at 38 weeks and still working full-time :( No BH, nothing. I've opted out of the internal exams so as not to psych myself out, and my group practice will not consider inducing until after my due date. So 2 weeks to go, and I'm hoping baby comes naturally.

I've decided to start taking my 3 month leave a few days before my due date, and want to put it in writing, along with my intention to return to work. I feel more comfortable with having something on file with my work. Have any of you done this? Just wondering about where to begin with wording. TIA

Re: Maternity leave in writing

  • I actually was required to fill out forms from HR and it had the option for me to put when I was leaving or I could just put my due date. Then they automatically added 3 months to that as my return date. When I do actually leave, which won't be until she is born, I have to send in a form saying the actual date I left. Are they not having you fill out paperwork?

Regarding your other comment, I'm opting out of internal exams as well for a lot of the same reason and all I've had are BH, nothing else really. I had a few days of mild cramps and I think I might have woken up the last two nights from bad cramps but nothing else as far as "progress". My dr told me yesterday that the baby is still really high up...as if her feet constantly in my ribs and the 24/7 heartburn didn't already clue me into that. She then said that most first time moms go a week late. So I'm not holding my breath lol. If I don't have her by Christmas ill start my leave the 26th.

  • I had to fill out the FMLA paperwork. Other than that everything I did was verbal, but I work in a small town/small school district.

  • Thanks. My company is under 50 employees so FMLA doesn't apply, and we really don't have paperwork for anything. I don't want it to just be verbal either. I'm thinking of typing something up that says my last day is the 19th, or date I go into labor, whichever comes first, and then my due date, plus 3 months after that and expected return date. They don't really make a big deal about these things after all. And they said my return date could be flexible. I wish I didn't have to think about this in the last 2 weeks.
