Babies: 9 - 12 Months

OH MY GROSS!

DS is almost 11 months and crawls EVERYWHERE! So of course I keep floors pretty clean. Today I was making lunch in the kitchen and noticed DS looked like he had something in his mouth, I rushed over to see him spit out something... I swiped it off his mouth while picking him up and realized what it was.... SPIDER LEGS!!!! OMG!! I went fishing in his mouth and found nothing else.... I am SO disturbed!! I made him drink from sippy and I brushed his teeth and gums.... UGH! I have been cleaning up random dead spiders but am usually really on top of it. What has your LO eaten..... someone please top that!! HAHA

Re: OH MY GROSS!

  • Can't really top that but mine was eating lint the other day. She even had it smeared across her cheek. I think she was trying to get as much in as fast as she could before I caught her.

  • I caught DS chewing on cat litter yesterday.  We have a covered box in the pantry behind a curtain so he normally doesn't bother it...but kitty had knocked a few pieces out and he found then.  Fortunately (I think) we use natural wood pellets instead of the clay stuff.

  • I went into her room one day to find dd playing with a dead scorpion, about an inch long. I was so freaked, but it obviously didn't sting her since she didn't scream. We can baby-proof all we want, but there's always going to be SOMETHING that slips past us lol.

I was joking one day that babies can find anything on the floor. A couple days ago dh dropped a screw on the floor while replacing a light fixture & couldn't find it. Just to be funny he took dd over there & watched her play, reminding me of my joke. To our surprise, not 15 seconds later I saw her go to put something in her mouth. It was the screw! We got it away from her & laughed forever!

  • I just read this and laughed so hard. That is so aweful, I bet he looked at you like "What's the big deal mom" when you were fishing around. Our washer/dryer is in a separate room with a door we always keep closed because we keep the cats litter and food in there. One day while I was doing laundry he was in there with me and I turn around for a second and of course I turn around and he has a cat turd in his hand smushing it around like it was the greatest toy he has lol. It was a pretty nasty clean up but really funny at the same time.

these were great stories!!!  and yeah, whenever I catch DD eating something she's not supposed to be, she stuffs it in as fast as possible because she knows Im coming! and then she clamps her mouth shut so its soooo hard to get.

thankfully she hasnt eaten anything too gross yet!

  • Thanks ladies! For sure, they always find the 1 thing you miss!!!
  • My LO has eaten soap. I'm not really sure how much of it she ate, there were just a few teeth marks on the bar. I forgot I had left the stupid soap bar on the side of the tub. It's not as gross as eating a spider I guess, but I'm sure it didn't taste very good. :) She likes to eat her boogers though... that's pretty gross.
  • dried up cat turd... yep, as foul as it gets.  Two years ago at my ILs house.  They are much older and don't get down to floor level much.  They had cleaned up some I guess but they had 3 indoor cats.  Our DD was 10 months old at the time and came along into the living room with a cat turd in her mouth Ick!  I have a strong stomach so I didn't puke but DH and I were paranoid about checking the floor after that.  So disgusting.

  • I am dying over here.  I'm here lurking for Christmas present ideas for my 9 month old God-son and I stumbled on this thread.   Seeing as I just had a baby and was on the tri-boards a bit...it's hilarious to see this after months of reading about whether or not it's safe to eat lunch meat or if you can clean the litter pan.  I'm going to remember this especially for my next pregnancy.   As careful as I can try to be...eventually my kid is going to eat spiders and play with cat poop.   Wink

ETA: you guys should really link this post on First Tri.  I think some of those gals' heads would spin.
