Ultrasound Question - Baby Is Transverse

So, baby has been laying transverse for my entire pregnancy (which explains why I started showing at 12 weeks, I guess.) I've had several ultrasounds in the last 6 weeks, but no one has been able to see "the goods". I have my anatomy scan next Wednesday, if baby is still transverse will the tech be able to see the baby's sex? Or is that going to be an issue?

Also, any pro tips on encouraging baby to move in the right direction?

Re: Ultrasound Question - Baby Is Transverse

  • As for being able to tell sex, I don't know, but you are still early and babies move like crazy. I wouldn't worry about the position yet, you have plenty of time for baby to turn head-down.

  • DD was transverse most of my first pregnancy. It was to the point that I almost wound up with a c-section. However this early I wouldn't worry to much. My midwife taught me exercises to encourage her to move. I honestly can't remember them. You could talk to you dr or try googleing it.

This, though I wouldn't worry this early.  Most of the time babies seem to dance around during ultrasounds!

  • My LO was tranverse for a long time but eventually turned a few weeks before she was delivered. My doc said only 3% of babies ever end up breech/transverse so more then likely they will turn at some point. You can try shining a light down low on your stomach, lay down with your feet up in the air, put a cold pack at the top of your tummy and a heating pad at the bottom to try to encourage him or her to move. Your doctor can even try doing it but there is some risk involved with it. Give it time, they will probably turn down on their own.

  • Thank you all for the great suggestions, I am going to try some to try and increase the chances of finding out the sex next Wednesday.

  • You're not even halfway brought your pregnancy. Don't do anything to move your kid head down at this point. He/she will do it when they're ready.

  • It's never too early to start seeing a chiro who specializes in the Webster method if you're truly concerned about positioning.
