Anyone take a sleep aid?

Ugh! I've waking up at like 1 or 2 in the morning and staying awake for 2 to 3 hours. I don't know what's wrong with me. I took Nyquil last night and the night before, even though I'm not sick, and slept all night both nights. First time in at least 2 weeks!! I can't keep taking that, obviously. Anyone take an OTC sleep aid that they'd recommend? TIA!

  • I have Advil PM that I have taken on a few occasions and it worked and served it purpose. Tylenol also has a PM sleep aid that my Fi has taken.

  • I take Melatonin. If I am really struggling, I take a unisom - the natural one.

  • I have troubles sleeping so I have taken many different types of aids.  Nyquil and Unisom leave me very groggy in the morning. The one that works the best for me is Tylenol PM.

  • I will take two benedryl if I'm having trouble sleeping. Sometimes it leaves me groggy if I take it too late, but usually I am fine if I take it before midnight. My doctor recommended it to me when I was pregnant and I've used it since.

  • I would try melatonin! I take it, so does my dh. Works GREAT for me.

  • I have used Simply Sleep (It's like Tylenol PM without the Tylenol) and did well with it. I did find that taking just one (half the recommended dose) would leave me waking up after 4 hours, but the whole dose gave me a great 8 hour sleep. I have also heard great things about melatonin. Benadryl makes me way too jittery to sleep well.

  • Benadryl has the exact same ingredients at Tylenol PM with out the acetaminophen in it.  My OB is the one who told me that when I was pregnant with DD.   I use Benadryl if I'm having a hard time sleeping.  I really don't need the acetaminophen from the Tylenol PM.

  • I take a half a unisom. If I take a whole one it leaves me too groggy in the morning. Half works great for me. I only use them when I am sick and on cold medicine because I will wake up like 20 times a night when I have to take cold medicine (I can't take Nyquil it makes me wacked out). I also use it if I am traveling and sleeping in a strange bed or have to sleep in the same room as my kids (one talks in her sleep and this keeps me awake all night).

You could also try some sleepy time tea and see if this helps to settle you down before sleep and help you to stay asleep all night.
