Hot Sauce Punishment (warning: disturbing footage)

(posted on 12-24 months...figured I would here too since it's slow)

So this is really old.... but I stumbled across this on youtube today. This video was taken by a sibling, not the Dr. Phil show. I find it sad that Dr. Phil would feature this on his show (though not surprising) and shocking that this woman would do this on camera. Has anyone heard of this punishment for kids? Am I way off base in never having heard of this before? I got soap in my mouth which was uncomfortable, yes, but nothing like this. If you want to share, did you endure this as a kid?

 I seriously hope that when he gets older and this happens, that he spits it at her and gets it in her eyes (hopefully she will get contacts)

    Thankfully the shower is the end of it.... but I don't know how you can hear your kid cry like that and keep going on with the punishment

    That seriously almost made me physically ill. I had to stop at the shower too. Poor baby. :-(

    This video makes me very sad for these poor kids that grow up in homes like this.  And also very thankful to know that is something my child will not ever experience.

    Wow, that it heartbreaking.  It makes the situation worse knowing that the boys are adopted and have already been through hell only to end up with her as a mother.

    Even though I wouldn't use the hot sauce as punishment, I feel like the cold shower was worse. .

    ITA. The hot sauce, at least for me, was just uncomfortable. I can't imagine having to endure a cold shower.

    I'm not going to watch the video because I'm sure I wouldn't get that image out of my mind ever again. Yes, I've heard of this being done years ago. I wouldn't do it in a million years! I also wouldn't do soap either.

    Holy Crap...I seriously just started crying because of how awful that mother was!!! I am all for consequences for an unacceptable reaction but that was not a consequence. That is abuse. I cannot believe that any mom could watch her kid (who looks all of age 5) scream in pain that she is causing and be okay with it because he got in trouble at school.

    I got soap in my mouth when I was being sassy sometimes.

    And now my blood is boiling that the show would request video of her actually punishing her kids in order to get on the show. I think I am going to be physically sick! I don't watch Dr. Phil but now I certainly won't be. Good Gracious!!
