Thoughts on a C/S because of GD?

I have a RCS scheduled for December 28th.  I originally wanted to try for a VBAC, but with having gestational diabetes, I am thinking that I would rather opt for a RCS instead of risking any potential complications such as having a larger baby if I go past my due date since being induced isn't an option.

Anyone had a RCS, how did it go?  Or anyone else in this situation?  TIA.

  • I'm in the same boat, rcs or first vbac. My first was 9lbs 12oz, were keeping an eye on this babys weight bc its an even higher risk to go vbac after a csection with a larger baby. I haven't made up my mind bc even with a growth ultrasound they could be wrong they were off 2pounds with my first... but dreading a rcs with a 2year old to take care of, around the holidays no less.

  • I'm looking at my 2nd vbac while having GD - my last one was really great. They can look at abdominal & head measurements to give you an idea if they are out of proportion - if not, I'd personally go with the vbac.

  • total lurker here (had DS2 in October), but I had GD with both pregnancies- DS1 was 8.12 and DS2 was 10.5!!!!!  The u/s showed him at 8.9 just four days before I went into labor, so OBVIOUSLY those Level 2s can even be totally off!

    I didn't have a c-section with either, but I'd recommend a vbac over a c-section... worth a shot!

  • I've never had a csection, nor have I had GD, but I can tell you my experience. I just delivered my 2nd child and was shocked at her size. DS was born 7lb 8oz and 21". DD, however, was 9lb 1oz and 20"!!! I ended up delivering her vaginaly, but not without help. She was sunny side up and her head was tipped slightly, so she was vacuumed out. But then her shoulders got stuck. Honestly, with all the pushing and pulling on my body, I could imagine that if I was a vbac I could have ended up with serious injury. Sure, your LO could come out no problem, but I would talk to your doc about the chance of injury to during a vbac if baby were to have it's shoulders stuck. Good luck no matter what you choose!
