Transitioning to WCM

I plan on transitioning LO to WCM starting next weekend. If you have already done this, what did you do? Go cold turkey on all formula? Replace one bottle at a time? Mix with formula?

Re: Transitioning to WCM

  • We started transitioning this week. 3/4 formula mixed with 1/4 WCM. Next week will be 50/50. Then we will reduce the formula to 1/4 and increase WCM to 3/4. Finally 100 milk. My DH and I can't wait to be done with costly formula!

  • We just started a few days ago and at first I did 75% BM and 25% WCM mixed toegther. He took that very well and then the next night we did 50/50. Since yesterday we are at 100% WCM for his night time bottle and he has no problem. I am still nursing him twice a day and he gets a mix of BM from my freezer stash and WCM during the day.

  • We didn't mix. Just replaced 2 daytime bottles with straw cups of WCM. She only drank a little the first few day but by day 5 she was drinking the whole cup. Then we dropped the bedtime bottle completely.

This exactly.  We just started replacing bottles with cups of whole milk.  She's been off of bottles for two weeks now.

  • I only give WCM in sippy cups (never in a bottle) and I wouldn't say I replaced bottles with milk, per se, because she was at one point getting 4 bottles per day but she only gets milk with her 3 meals.  She gets water the rest of the day.  Over the course of a month or so, we would drop a bottle each week and increase her solids.

In theory, their nutrition is coming from solids moreso than milk so I'd focus on that, not on making sure they're getting the same amount of milk as they were getting formula/breast milk.  DD takes maybe 16-18oz of WCM per day.

ETA:  we've been formula/bottle free for just about a month now.
