Can't Shop with E Anymore

I am feeling pretty down today. I have some shopping to do but I feel like I can't do it because of how E has been behaving lately. She refuses to stay in the cart or her stroller for longer than 10 minutes and then pulls on me and whines or even cries until I pick her up. I swear she has stretched out several of my shirts pulling on me and saying, "Up!". I can wear her in the Ergo, but she's 22 lbs and my back can't take it for an extended time.

Anyone else going/went through a clingy stage? Can you shop with your kid? Any advice?

Re: Can't Shop with E Anymore

  • We just started having problems shopping too. She use ti lovesitting in the cart and we would have a great time waving hi to everyone and she loved "driving" in the car carts. Now I don't know what to do about my weekly grocery shopping. The past two times I had to cut it short because she was loosing it and I felt like the whole store was staring. She refuses to stay in the cart longer than a couple minutes. She screams and squirms. She wants to walk on her own but if I put her down she won't hold my hand and she wants to take everything off the shelves. If I try to hold her or put her in a carrier she screams, kicks, and hits me. I was in tears after shopping at target the other day. And all I see are happy babies sitting in the carts.

I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling with shopping.

    Hope others have advice.

  • I cheat and leave Nora at home with daddy when I need to get a mass amount of stuff. If I need to do it during the day when he's working, I try to make it a quick trip. I also attach one of her toys to the cart for entertainment, stop and play peekaboo, have treats in a cup at any moment, or whatever I can do to keep her entertained.

  • DS always loved hanging out in the cart until recently, too. Now he squirms, fusses, and gives me a hard time from the moment I put him in the cart. He doesn't want to be held either. He wants to run around, touch everything, and go up to every stranger and try to play with them. I can buy myself a few minutes by bringing a cup of snacks, but he gets bored of that quickly. The worst part is that DH just started a new job in manhattan this week. It's a long day plus an hour and a half commute each way. He leaves the house at 4:30 am, and doesn't get home until between 6 and 9 pm depending if there's overtime. This is going to be 6 days a week. I won't even have many opportunities to leave DS home with DH to go shopping. I have no idea how I'm going to get all of this Christmas shopping done!

I gave up on doing Christmas shopping with LO. DH is in charge of some of it now, but i'm doing most of the Christmas shopping online. A lot of stores are offering free shipping right now. I wish I could do my grocery shopping online!

I would look into that. I do my grocery shopping online and I am a much happier person for it. They deliver it and bring it inside and put it on your counters if you want. Or you can just have it dropped at the door. Delivery is only $9 which I find totally worth it! And they don't take tips.

DH actually worked for the local grocery store delivery for the past year until his union finally found a long term job placement for him. So you would think I would do it right? The guys here do take tips, because their hourly pay is pretty low. I think the delivery fee is like $6. Even with tip and delivery fee it's totally worth it. The only reason I don't do it is because they don't carry a few of the things I use regularly, and their items are all a tiny bit more expensive than my usual store. I should still do it though and just make a quick trip to get the things they don't carry. It would definitely save me some time in the long run.
  • I'm shameless. E can act like a beast if she feels the need, but I have to have TP and food. Most adults have kids and have been through the same. If they're reasonable, they won't judge. They'll understand that I'm in the process of socializing my kid and teaching her that she won't always get what she wants when she wants it. And if they do judge, they're just stupid dbags. And I don't care anything about the opinions if stupid dbags.
