Anyone else with a thumbsucker?

The post below had a lot of replies with people bashing the thumb, but I guess I just don't see the big deal. I would think kindergarteners sucking their thumb are the exception and not the norm. I don't know; my DS never took a paci or sucked his thumb. And I definitely didn't do anything to encourage DD taking the thumb, but I don't really mind. She's still so little and it immediately calms her down when she starts screaming in the car (which is every trip) or when I try to change her diaper (which she hates). And naptimes are sooo smooth now.

Anyone else with a thumbsucker or who just doesn't see it to be a huge issue?

Re: Anyone else with a thumbsucker?

  • I LOVE that my DD is a thumbsucker. And it is so darn cute when she tries to pop her wet, little thumb into my mouth.

    Makes me smile every time.

    I totally agree with you.?

  • I'm fine with DD sucking her thumb for now.  She used to take the paci and we would spend all night putting it back in.  Since she found her thumb she dropped the paci and hasn't used it in about 3 months.  She self soothes herself and really only sucks her thumb when she tired or sleeping.

  • DD has sucked her thumb for a while now.  I don't have a problem with it.  We'll deal with it if/when we think she is too old.

  • Instead of his thumb, DS sucks on his forefinger and middle finger at the same time.  I agree with you and am not worried about it at all.  I am glad he sucks his fingers rather than a paci

  • DD is a thumb sucker. I have about 200 pacis sitting around because I tried to encourage her to use one, but she always rejected them. She's happy with the thumb, so I am too.
  • does having a child her sucks her two fingers count . . lol! ?she sucks her pointer and middle finger . . at three months I found the paci on the side of the bed. . . i'm fine with it. . she self soothes herself .. ?-no more pulling over to the side of the road and sticking a paci in her mouth . .?
  • Any finger-sucking counts :) I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who's really not bothered by it. She's happy, so I'm happy :)

  • Lexi is a thumbsucker, but I don't care.  She only does it when she's tired, so I love that there's a signal for naptime instead of screaming her head off!  She never really cared for pacis and neither did DS.  DD#1 couldn't use them with her cleft palate, no suction, the paci would fall right out!  DD#2 has been our only thumbsucker though.  I'll worry about it when she reaches school age or her clients comment about it to us later in life Wink
