Prepping body for induction?

I'm being induced on Wednesday the 12th at 38w5d. Body and baby are both showing no signs of being anywhere close to interested in going into labor (unless my cervix is being sneaky - haven't had any dilation/effacement checks), which makes me think I may be in for a long induction process. Are there any ways to help my body get ready for an induction so that the process may go a little quicker/smoother?

  • Why are they inducing you before your due date?

Baby has a condition that warrants me delivering at a hospital with a NICU and a specialist not available in my hometown. Hospital is an hour and a half away, so they want me to be able to be at the hospital to deliver, so the plan has been to induce me at 39w. (However, 39w for me falls on a Friday, so they're doing it a few days early)

  • My midwife told me to drink red raspberry tea (cold or hot, your choice), to take 2-5 evening of primrose capsules every day (orally or vaginally- she recommends vaginally) and doing the Miles Circuit every day to make sure the baby is in position.

    Gotcha!

Try red raspberry Leaf tea, its meant to help the cervix prepare itself for a stronger delivery.  And my doula suggested making sure you are doing your Kegel excersizes as well and during the induction procedure make sure you try to stay as relaxed as possible (use your breathing techniques or whatever you plan on using during delivery to stay relaxed)  As well, drinking plenty of water and fruit juices (best not the full of sugar concentrated kind)

Good luck and I hope everything turns out great for you and Baby!! Fingers crossed for you both!!!
