Meat Purees?

Any mommies making their own baby food do a chicken or turkey puree?  I poached chicken, cooled, then pureed.  When I tried to feed it to DS he absolutely refused, tight lipped wasn't having it.  I tasted it and agree with him it was awful.  Any suggestions on making it more appealing?  Also, when did you all introduce chicken as finger food?  TIA!

Re: Meat Purees?

  • I just started with chicken this week (I baked a chicken breast in the oven).  I combined it with sweet potato (using my baby bullet).  Seems like E can't get enough of it.

I would try mixing it with a veggie that DS likes?

After 15 cycles and 3 rounds of clomid (50mg) we got our BFP.

I agree; mix it with veggies.  I also mixed chicken with sweet potatos and DS loves it!

  • DS refused chicken breast but LOVED chicken thigh. It smells and looks like cat food in my opinion so I get a little grossed out feeding it to him. He likes it mixed in with stuff, especially broccoli or applesauce.

  • I agree with the other ladies. We had success when the meat was mixed with a veggie. She loved turkey with sweet potatoes.
  • I can't stomach the thought of a meat puree!  We are doing them as finger foods.  So far O has loved the pot roast (mainly though he just sucked on it).  He did not care for turkey however.

  • I pureed turkey, it was the only thing he threw up and it wasn't a reaction.  The second day he didn't swallow it he threw it up so I decided to wait till we can do finger foods.  I have given him chicken and turkey pieces and he seems to do ok with that.  He hates veggies pureed unless it is squash or sweet potatoes.  He seems to keep veggies in his mouth though instead of swallowing.  Not sure if it is a texture thing.

  • We started meats about 2 weeks ago and we do them as finger foods - she has had pot roast, chicken, turkey meatballs and sausage so far and loves them all! The shredded pieces are easier for her to eat. Anything I do in the crockpot is a big success! It took a few days for her to figure out the chewing and swallowing, but she's definitely got the hang of it now. I smelled a meat puree and just couldn't do it.
