  • Awww, Happy Birthday Nate!

Mine is that my ODS is buying lunch today at the school cafeteria for the first time.  He's been asking to do this for a while as other kids in his class buy lunch, but I've always packed his.

Today is Pizza day and I asked if he wanted to buy a lunch or have me pack one, and he said buy.

He'll have help, of course.  But still.  he'll have to make his own food choices, pay at the cash register, carry his tray etc.  Thats a lot of steps for a little guy!

I am freaking out a little although I'm 100% sure it'll be fine.

  • Woohoo for Nate's birthday!!!

DS2 is napping in the crib!  I really tried to avoid sleep training but he needed it.   He cried on and off for 7 minutes (i checked on him at 5 min) and then he fell asleep.  for a nap!!

To my boys:  I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew
  • We've had a good week. I took the girls to open gym play on Monday and a McDonald's playplace yesterday, and both times things went more smoothly than usual. Aside from one little boy who wanted to throw foam blocks at DD1, who insisted that he was "being nice."

DD1 picked out our Christmas tree and it's beautiful. :) She's so excited for Santa!

She has been really helpful lately, even volunteering for things. A few days ago she asked if she could help me empty the silverware out of the dishwasher; she is learning to fold laundry; and she's been more helpful/participating during grocery shopping, which has kind of become a weekend thing we do together.

I took a tour of another kindy option this morning, and I have to say, I think she's going to do really well. She's totally on track for being able to handle the things that I saw the other kids doing today; now we just have to decide where she's going to go.

  • Happy birthday NATE!!!   Awesome.

I think mine would be that DS1 was in a "recital" for his daycare over the weekend and did really well.  I saw him singing some of the words (they had quite a few songs to memorize).  He started to break apart near the end and almost hit another kid on stage--but it was under control and he did great.

He's been using so many more words lately--I'm so proud of him.  He also finally got OT officially added to his IEP so that's a great thing.  I met with his OT and she really feels that there's no other issues--but that he needs to work through it with therapy and with maturation will develop in time.  I'm so hopeful!

Praying so hard that he can be in a traditional school setting by 1st grade-- he's 4.5 yrs old right now.

  • I've got a few: Jon and Matthew have been wonderfully helpful lately.  Yesterday they helped set the table, clean the table off after supper, unload/reload the dishwasher, and run it.

Chris' brags: He wrote his own Christmas list out.  He had me stretch the sounds out and he spelled the words themselves.  He did a wonderful job spelling out *in kid spelling* dath str (death star), kat (cat), and hit oels (hot wheels).  The other night he also was able to calm himself down and stop a meltdown.  He was mad that I didn't read the book he wanted for bed-time.  He hit me and I told him that wasn't nice.  He ran outside in the hall stomping yelling "I'm mad at you" and ran into the room yelling "Push on my shoulders!".  As soon as I did he was better.  He hugged me and told me "Thank you".

  • DS1 Played his first hockey game last weekend! He did so awesome following the rules.  They have little 7 player teams and switch out two lines.  Each time the buzzer beeped, he skated straight to the bench and sat nicely waiting for his next turn on the ice.  It was amazing!!!! He even scored 3 goals!!

I had a periodic review of DS2's IEP yesterday with his team. He is making great progress on his goals and his team said he is a delight to have in the classroom. We were talking about him as a baby, and how he was 2 years ago when we started the EI road.  They were absolutely floored at the progress he has made. It makes me feel like we are doing the right things.

  • Aww, happy birthday Nate!

    Let's see what we have.

Chris can open a locked door. Why am I bragging about this?  He used to have a really hard time with turning things, like dials - like a lock.  We were at my brother in law's for Thanksgiving and we warned them that he's a bit of a runner and so they locked the door and a little later I see Chris try the knob because he wanted to go outside.  At finding it locked, he looked at it curiously and then went to the lock portion, turned it and voila, open door.  Scary and yet so proud of him for being able to do that.

He's sleeping through the night these days.  He went through a period where he'd get up for 2 hrs at a time every night.

He interacts to a certain degree with his baby brother.  He makes a point of saying "Hi Lucas" and when the baby's crawling all over him (literally), he tolerates it pretty well and doesn't shove him at all.  There's even a little sibling rivalry going on when it comes to toys and mommy.

That's all I got right now.

  • I have moved mountains in the past month since we got his diagnosis. ABA through EI starts Friday. Maybe now I can sleep.

And for the kiddo brag: he called me Mommy to point out a train today. He wasn't just talking to himself. Huge.

  • Grant had 8 vials of blood drawn and he only cried for the initial prick.  He sat there with the needle in his arm all patiently while the blood filled each vial.  I was impressed!

  • Happy Birthday Nate!

Lily used a 4 button AAC at therapy the other day.  The device was in the reading center, and the four buttons said, "Turn the page," "Read it again," "All Done," and "I have something more to say."  I thought she might play around with the buttons a bit, until she got the hang of it.  But, there was was none of that.  I read the first page of our book, asked her what she wanted to do and she told me, "Turn the page."  Same thing with the second page, the third page, and so on.  When we finished the book, I asked her what she wanted to do and she told me, "Read it again."  So, I began to read it again.  Then, her therapist came over and told us it was time for group therapy.  I finished the page we were reading (figured we would finish the book before we went over to group).  I asked Lily what we should do next, and she told me, "all done."  Needless to say, I was floored.

Also, signs that are now in Lily's vocabulary... "Mommy," "Daddy," "More," "All Done," "Yes," "No," and "Hair."  Her fine motor is really coming along.

  • By boy finally said "mama"  I have been waiting forever for those simply words and I said "who am I and he said my mama"  Insert tears here.  Love those moments.
