Our DD is a light eater. She's recently started teething, no teeth yet, but all the classic symptoms. Her formula intake was about 27oz a day and over the last week we are down to 22 to 24. My gut is screaming that this isn't enough food.
This week during feedings she is crying and thrashing through them. Very upset, very worked up for up to an hour after them. She's burped, dry, otherwise ok.
I am going to take her in this week to see the dr, just to check her out cause the food thing is making me so upset. Other than teething or ear infection is there anything else I should ask the doc to look for?
Feel free to let me know if I'm worrying too much! Thanks
Re: Upset during feedings
My DD is acting similarly. She has reflux and tummy issues in general, so I was attributing it to that. She also acts like she's teething, though I'm not sure why that would cause issues with feedings.
22-24 oz is perfectly adequate intake. DD takes about 20 oz on a good day.
I have had 2 reflux babies, and I definitely agree that it's upsetting when your LO won't eat. I hope you figure it out soon.
I must say I am relieved to hear someone say 22 to 24 is enough! Our doc told us 27 to 30 would be a good amount of formula per day. It's always seemed to be a lot for her.
She's the best kid ever, I hate to see her have bad days.
Thanks!
DS3 only takes 20-24oz a day and my pedi is perfectly fine with it. I've have both a big eater in DS1 who took 8oz bottles from 12wks on and a littler eater in DS2 who never took more then 5-6oz in a bottle. Ds3 is kindof in the middle he either takes 5 bottles of 4-5oz or 4 bottles that are 6-7oz.
The things you are describing is how I knew/know if the baby had an ear infection. It would also mess with their sleep at night. It would hurt them to lay back and suck on a bottle so it was miserable. I'd definitely have her checked out and if everything checks out then maybe she's just not as hungry and isn't in the middle of a growth spurt. Even now with my 3 and 2 yr old I have to constantly remind myself to look at the day or even the week as a whole as to what they have eaten. Some days they are eating me out of house and home and other days they barely eat a piece of bread.
