I hate clipping DD's nails:(

I accidentally clipped her finger, and omg, blood everywhere. DD was in tears, I was in tears, and her poor little finger wouldn't stop bleeding. She now nursing, making little whimpering noises and looking up at me all like, "I thought you loved me, mom!". Poor baby. Her pain cry is heartbreaking.

I was afraid this would happen, she's so squirmy. How do you battle the squirms while trimming LO's nails?

I file instead of clip.

I did that once, and she scratched my gums while doing it. That is better that her hurting, though.

Ugh I did this twice already! The fist time it didn't bleed but it did when I clipped them the other day. I agree, she pain cry is so sad. K had the same "why, mommy? why?" face. Like a knife to the heart.

How do you get your kiddo to sit still long enough for that? DD has what we call windmill arms--ahe's always wildly waving them!

I make DH clip them. I've been on nail strike ever since I snipped the pup's nail too close.

He does it when he's just about asleep.

Yikes! Poor pup. DH refuses to do it because he clipped the cat's claw to close. I don't think the cat ever forgave him for it!

I file them while she's eating. I'm terrified to clip.

Maybe try while she's asleep instead?

I can try. But she doesn't really nap during the day, and at night, I usually fall asleep before she nurses herself to sleep for the night. I'll see if I can get her tonight though.

This! Last night I had my DH shine a flashlight on her hands while I clipped them because she was sound asleep in our dark bedroom. Works great!

I can only do it while he is asleep. I have tried clipping but I find that biting them off or peeling them off (they are so thin and fragile so its easy) works best

I never post but had to comment on this thread if it means I'll save some little ones from getting their poor little fingers snipped! Ladies, please go out and purchase baby nail clipping scissors. They are seriously amazing! You see exactly where and how much you are cutting. They have blunt ends so you won't stab your child by mistake if they squirm. I cut my baby's nails when he is nursing, I also use the scissors to trim my 2 yr old's nails. I got my pair in one of those infant safety/grooming kits, red cross brand, but I know they also sell the same type of scissors on amazon.
