Two Under 2

Did you keep the babies in your room until they were 6 months old?

We are having the crib delivered for #2 and have a small bassinett, but bedroom in our bedroom for the crib.  Wondering if we should set it up in our room or the babies room...thinking b/c of SIDS we should keep the baby in our room until she is 6 months.  Also, I will be going back to work, so this might be easier for night feedings...We did htis w/#1....just wondering what you ladies did. thanks!

  • Yes.  I kept DD1 in our room for 6 months and DD2 in for 7 months.

  • DD slept in a PnP in our room for exactly 2, sleepless nights.  Then we moved her to her crib in her nursery and we all slept better.  Her room is across the hall from ours, so I just got up to feed her every 3 hours.

We plan to put LO2 in its own room from the beginning as well.

  • Nope all three slept in their crib from night 1. Our pedi very much agrees with us on this.

  • We kept the baby in the bassinet until about 4 months, and then transferred them to the crib in their room.  I nursed so it was easiest to keep them with us at night, but our rooms also share a wall, so it wasn't a long walk to go get them at night either!  A crib would fit in our room, but not worth the trouble of taking it down a putting it back up in their room when it's time.

  • Nope. DD started sleeping in her crib in her own room when she was 5 wks old. She slept so much better without hearing us toss and turn, and she wasc just so squirmy and could already roll over, that her face was getting into the side of the cradle.

With this one, we will probably do the same thing. Once this one can roll over, he or she will get moved to own crib in own room, or if baby is a light sleeper. I toss and turn all night, so I'm worried ill disturb the baby like I did DD.

  • My four year old has bunk beds in his room that can be separated in to two twins, but I don't want to move our will be 18 month old to a big boy bed so young.  The plan now is to have the 18 month old stay in his own room in the crib until he is about two or ready to transition and just keep the baby in the pack'n'play in our room.  This will be a big change, as we had the other two in their cribs at two weeks, after me spending the first two weeks with them downstairs on the couch.  We have a guest room, but I don't want to give up the space when we have a plan/furniture already for the older boys.  Hopefully, baby #3 will be a more restful and quiet sleeper than the first two.  I never could sleep with them nearby!!

    This.

  • LO1 slept in our room until she was 6 months old. I don't know if I want LO2 in our room for that long. We are hoping to keep her in with us for a few weeks and then take "shifts" at night in her room until she can sleep 4-6 hour stretches (we have a bed next to the crib in her room). I really missed sleeping alone with DH when LO1 was little. It isn't very romantic. Ha.

  • DD slept in a PNP in our room for the first 8 wks.  DS lasted a total of 2 nights.  He was just too noisey and we couldn't get any sleep.

  • DS1 was in our room until he was 1. But he is an awful.sleeper and would wake up 8-10x a night regularly. Just now at 15 months is he sleeping better. For what it is worth, he did not have issues with his crib transition. DS2 is in our room but as soon as his room is finished I will probably move him to it, he already STTNs (miracle!) Almost so I don't see why not really.

  • We had DS in our room for about 2 weeks before we moved him to his room.  DD was in her crib in her room from day one.  I can't sleep with a baby in the room, they are loud and keep me up!

  • Both in our room for a bit over 1 week.  Just long enough for me to be a bit recovered from the c-sections before I had to walk the long hall to their rooms several times in the middle of the night.

None of us sleep well when we share a room.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • I've kept all 3 kids in my room in either the bassinet, pnp or their crib for at least 6 months.
  • Nope. We went with the crib from Day 1 on both kids. For the first month, sometimes the swing next to the couch on nights that we were desperate, lol. I believe the fewer transitions the better.

  • DS is still in our room at 9 months and will be when #2 arrives.  Both will be in our room/bed/some combination.

  • DD1 was in our room for 12 or 13 months and DD2 for 14 months. They had no issues transitioning to their own room when the time came. It really helped my anxiety to be able to have them in my room until there was no longer a SIDS risk.

  • DS1 was in our room in the Rock n Play for about 6 months (then transitioned to his crib in his own room) and that's the plan with DS2 so far. It works out well b/c with nursing, he's just right there. Plus, our house is drafty so just because my bedroom is a comfortable temperature doesn't mean the nursery isn't freezing (or sweltering). Finally, I'm just more comfortable having my babies close by at night when they're new. To each his own.
