If your kids are about 3-3.5 years apart...

Did you get a double stroller when LO #2 came along? Did you use it very often? DD will be 3 years 2 months old when baby is due. I want to get a bob stroller but I'm thinking a single will be fine. DD isn't a 'runner' and we don't use the stroller all that often now--just for long walks and the mall really. I'm thinking for the first few months if I needed the stroller I'd put the baby in a front pack and DD in the stroller anyway. And then by 3.5, most kids don't use a stroller much, do they?

  • My kids are a bit closer together than yours will be but my DD1 is 3.5 years old. She is very good about walking with us and holding our hand, not running off. But she doesn't like it. She would much rather ride in her stroller. She always says she is afraid someone will step on her.

  • My 3.5 year old hasn't ridden in a stroller in a long time, so we don't plan on using the double at all when her brother arrives (my first two are under two years apart so we needed it then). If I was getting anything for kids who were 3+ years apart it would be a sit and stand just so I can contain the older one when necessary and they have somewhere to sit if they get tired during a long day out, but not a full on double.

  • My oldest and youngest are 3.5 years apart.  We have a double stroller for the younger 2, but my oldest doesn't ride in it anymore.

  • Mine are 3 years, 3 months apart. We debated getting the double stroller but figured it would be a waste of money given that my oldest would probably only ride in a stroller for another few months after that. Turns out we did just fine with just one stroller and my oldest walking everywhere. The only time we wished we had one were times at the zoo or Disneyland where we were walking a lot and she would get tired after doing that all day. But the few times that happened, I usually just strapped my younger in the Baby Bjorn while she rode in the stroller.
  • My DS was exactly 3 years 2 months when DD was born. I prefer that he walk when we go out walking or shopping etc. I like him to get some energy out! I did buy a double jogger off of Craigslist for when I want to go running, but with winter, I've used it all of once. I'd rather DS be running and playing along side of a single stroller than riding all of the time. Plus, the double strollers are HUGE and inconvenient. haha

  • I got a double. I used it a lot the first year, not as often anymore. DD has always been good about not running, but she still likes going for rides. I live in Chicago, and walk as much as I can so it was defintly worth it for us. We are going to TTC soon so ill use it again with DS and God willing new baby.

    I had a sit n stand BTW.

  • Nope, but my oldest hated the stroller once he could walk and never wanted to be in it.

  • This is a good question.  DS still loves to ride in his stroller.  He and baby #2 will be just under 3 years apart.  My plan is to get by with the single for a while (mostly by babywearing the LO) and then re-evaluate later on about the need for a new stroller.  I'm thinking that if we can get by for most of the first year maybe I can just go with a sit and stand option because DS will probably get to the point where he likes to walk more than ride, but I would still like to have something for him because we do go places (like the zoo) often where there is a lot of walking involved.

  • My girls are exactly 3 years apart. I had this same question when DD2 was born. I decided to wait and see but have the carrier ready to go just in case. Dd1 was never a runner either, and she's always been a good stroller rider. When DD2 was about 6 months old, I decided to buy an inexpensive jogging stroller and it has been great for long walks. We don't really take it anywhere else, as its pretty cumbersome. I will say that now that the girls are 4 and 18 months, we are using it less and less, only because I usually want DD1 to walk and get some energy out. : I never needed a double stroller at the mall or anything DD1 never wanted to miss out on what me and DD2 were doing! Hope that helps and good luck!
  • Why not get a "buggy" board for your single stroller?

  • I would go with your plan of wearing the baby/using the single then see where your daughter is when she's 3.5. We ditched the double stroller at my son's second birthday and we never had a need to use it again. He can walk the mall/zoo/amusement parks/hiking without needing to sit in a stroller. We just take frequent breaks for snacks/drinks and he's fine. Every child is different so yours might need to ride in a stroller for long walks but you're not going to know until you get there.

  • I'm having this same debate right now. I think I'm going to go with a Joovy Caboose ultralight. I tried the Baby trend sit n stand and the Graco ready to grow and they were a beast to push, especially the Baby Trend one. But I also have a hand me down double jogger for walks.

I don't want to spend a ton on a double but I know that when we go to Disneyland and the zoo (2-4 times a month for each) that out of convenience I am going to want somewhere that DS can hop on and sit. I'm mostly planning to Moby/Ergo the baby since I wore DS a lot too and then just push DS in the single stroller when I need to.
