I'm taking the pills tomorrow
and am curious as what to expect. My doctor said that it would hurt and
prescribed Vicodin, if the pain got too bad. I was only 2 months along
when I started bleeding and they told me they couldn't find a heart beat
and then again on Tuesday they confirmed that there was no longer a
baby there. Does anyone have any advice on this?
Re: Misoprostol?
I'm sorry you're in this situation.
I took one dose of misoprostol that did nothing for me, and had to follow it up with a second higher dosage that totally took care of everything. It wasn't a pleasant experience, but if I ever found myself in the same situation, I'd absolutely take it again.
It's nice that your doc gave you pain medication. Mine said that ibuprofen would be strong enough, and he couldn't have been more wrong. It hurt, but at least it was not a constant pain (I haven't had a baby yet, but the pain sounded just like contractions), and so I was able to get through with it.
If I were you, I would fill my vicodin along with the misoprostol, and as soon as I started feeling cramps, I would take the vicodin. If you wait until the pain is really severe, it will not help as much.

Also, I found this blog to be wonderfully informative. Some of the stories sound kind of scary, but it's honestly not that bad. I spent a lot of time taking hot baths and catching up on TV shows that I am ordinarily too busy to watch.
Let us know how you are doing later on! And good luck with everything!
I took Misoprostol (4 pills vaginally) a week ago and it worked for me, I was supposed to be 11 weeks but baby had stopped growing at 6 weeks. The pain is really just like bad cramps, I took the Vicodin even though I probably could have made it through without it. I?m so sorry that you are going through this, it was an emotional roller coaster but you?ll be just fine!!! Be sure to keep getting your HCG levels checked to make sure it worked. Hang in there sweety ? everything will be fine!
I took this last Wednesday, and haven't had my follow up yet (tomorrow), so I can't tell for sure if I'm in the all-clear yet, but here was my experience.
My doctor also assured me ibuprofen was fine, even though I told her that last year after my d&c I had the most God-awful cramping that I wanted to die before passing a clot - and I am not a wuss about pain. She assured me that it was because I had fibroids back then and this would be different. She was wrong.Get the painkillers. And take them as soon as you feel anything. Fortunately, I still had some vicoprofen from my surgery last spring, so I managed to take two of those during the worst of it, but I waited a little too long and still had a good hour of cramps that no amount of curling up and moaning could help. Other than that, though, the experience wasn't that bad, considering.
I took the first dose and nothing much happened. Four hours later, I took the second dose. I felt a little light cramping, and thought, hey, this isn't so bad. I sat around watching tv, and when the cramping got a little worse, I took an Advil, and used a heating pad. The heating pad helped a little. About an hour into it, the cramping was worse than any period pain, and progressively getting worse, until I gave in and took a vicoprofen. I had a good half hour of terrible cramping where I was curled up and shivering in a cold sweat before the vicoprofen seemed to kick in a little bit to dull it. Sitting on my knees and curled over a pillow seemed to ease it a tiny bit, but it would come in waves. I took my third dose of cytotec and then I took a second vicoprofen (the bottle said take 1-2 every 4-6 hours). Finally I went to the bathroom and passed a pretty large clot - I actually had to push a little bit to get it out. (this was a good 12 hours after I started the cytotec) The cramping almost immediately eased back a bit after that. I had some other clots throughout the night but I was able to sit up and watch tv and drink a little juice and overall function the rest of the night. I took the final dose of cytotec before going to bed and slept okay all night. I never had heavy bleeding, all my 'gushes' came when I went to the toilet. This was Wednesday.
The following days I did start bleeding more, like a heavy period, with the occasional clot and tissue. I could pretty much feel when I was going to have a little "gush" but nothing that soaked through a pad -- I am using Always Infinity pads... they are AWESOME. They definitely absorb a lot more than anything else I've ever used, and are super-thin.
I still have minor cramping today but nothing like even period cramps... I'm not taking anything for them. I hope I'm cleared tomorrow morning at my follow-up because the last thing I want is a D&C ... I just want this to be over.
I'm so sorry you're going through this, but I hope everything works out quickly and relatively painlessly. Definitely ask for painkillers, I'd rather fill a prescription and not have to use them than be stuck without the option if things get really bad.
