Food Question: Eating cold pizza

I've read a few things online about eating cold pizza, but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. My husband and I got a Hawaiian pizza (ham and pineapple) last night, and there was leftovers so I took a slice to work today. Suddenly really hungry and without thinking, I grabbed the slice from the fridge and devoured it. I did not reheat the pizza.

I immediately panicked and thought of all the listeria warnings I've heard since the day I found out I was pregnant.

My question is, is it okay that I ate that slice of pizza, with cold ham on it? It was cooked thoroughly originally and quickly transferred to the fridge. Or should I call my doctor?

Thanks,

  • Um, no, you are fine. This is something that has been blown extremely out of proportion (5 years ago, they didn't even tell pregnant women about this deli meat thing) and it is extremely uncommon to get listeria from eating lunch meat. If I had not eaten my turkey sandwiches through both of my pregnancies I would have wasted away;)

  • You're fine.

Also, cold, leftover pizza is seriously one of my favorite things ever. Yumm...

  • Thanks all - I sort of figured I had nothing to worry about. But a phone call from a friend who is also pregnant and doing *everything* by the book got me a little worried.
