March 2012 Moms

Canadian Moms?

Hey, sorry I haven't been on here forever ... Laptop bit the dust.

I remember there was a handful of Canadian moms on here before just wondering if you have started looking into child care yet? How are you handling it? Are you going with a dayhome or daycare or are you staying home?

I am returning to work as I am the larger income earner of the two but I am having a hard time finding quality care in my small city in Alberta. Ugh. It's so stressful. Plus on top of that my son is allergic to cats and dogs and most dayhomes seem to have pets so that's been making it even harder.

Just wondering where you are all at in the process?

Re: Canadian Moms?

  • We have been looked into it and the people who have been interested I haven't gotten a good vibe from. There is a really amazing daycare here but the list to get in is quite long and we probably won't get it in tell five or six months after my the parental leave runs out. My hubby is considering staying home in the mean time. I know I eventually will find care for my son that I trust and love but I don't know if we will find it by March.

  • I'm staying home, so I'm not much help, but I just wanted to say hello to my fellow Canadians! *waves*

Good luck on your search for child care... I really hope you find quality, trustworthy option soon :-)

  • I just found a home daycare I am comfortable with this month. It is a friend's mom who has been in the business for 30 years. We were wait listed at a daycare centre. But if I hadn't found a great home daycare I would stay home until my dd was 18 months old because it is much cheaper and more spaces open up around that time! If it is possible for your dh to stay home for the 5-6 months I would jump at it!

Oh good for you! Yeah that's what I was thinking. There is more spots at 18 months at this daycare we have our hearts set on. So I might have to be the way we go.

  • No idea what I am going to do. My contract ended a month before my due date. I was thinking about taking some courses to become a public Health nurse and get into lactation consulting.

  • I'm also a higher earner so I went back to work after three months and my husband has been staying home since. I haven't really given day care much thought either. I probably need to do that though.
